In order not to attract people's attention, he was arranged to work with the people and grind rice in the shack. Huineng is willing to do what she wants to do, smashing rice all day and doing it very happily. There were 700 tolerant people at that time. Eight months after Huineng entered the temple, Hong Ren ordered a poem to be presented. In fact, it was an examination to choose an heir. Shen Xiu is the best of all monks. In the middle of the night, he held the lamp alone and wrote a poem in the south corridor of the Buddhist temple: "I am a bodhi tree, and my heart is like a mirror." I always wipe it so that there is no dust. "In the morning, Hong Ren saw this poem and was indifferent. Huineng heard the sound and came to the porch. He asked to write a poem and got permission. One day, the wind raised the flag of the temple, and two monks were arguing about whether it was "windy" or "fluttering". Huineng said: "There is neither wind nor encouragement, and the benevolent people are in the hearts of the people. "Huineng's statement amazed the monks, and also attracted the attention and respect of the Indian master. Soon, Master Yinzong shaved Huineng, and later called a famous monk to hold a grand ceremony for Huineng. In the spring of the following year, Huineng left Huo Zhuoji and went to Nanhua Temple in the north to preach the Dharma. More than a thousand people came to see me off. In Nanhua Temple, the sixth ancestor Huineng preached for 37 years. Meanwhile, Wei Kun, the secretariat of Shaozhou, invited Huineng to give lectures at Kaiyuan Temple (later renamed Dafan Temple) in Shaozhou, and his words and deeds were compiled into a book by disciple Fahai, which was regarded as the magic weapon of the six ancestors. In Buddhism, only the words and deeds of Buddha Sakyamuni can be called "respect", and the words and deeds of the founder of a sect can also be called "respect". Huineng is the only one.
In the second year of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty (AD 7 13), Huineng died at Guo 'en Temple in Xinxing County, his hometown, at the age of 76. The next year, the sixth ancestor moved back to Caoxi and was enshrined in Zhaoling Tower. Huineng was deeply loved by the imperial court before his death. In the first year of Long Live the Tang Dynasty (AD 696), Empress Wu Zetian specially sent calligraphers to give Huineng a crystal alms bowl, a cassock, a white felt and other gifts. The name, birthplace and family background of the natural Zen master have not been handed down. It is impossible to explain whether the Zen master himself disappeared or was later lost. "Nature" was the dharma name given to him by his teacher after he became a Buddhist.
Born naturally in the 26th year of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty (AD 738), he studied Confucian classics since childhood to prepare for his fame. " I naturally thought that the Zen master would not lie, so I changed my mind, detoured Jiangxi, paid homage to the Zen guest, and went south early.
Naturally, I visited Mazu in Zhong Ling, Jiangxi Province (near Nanchang, Jiangxi Province) nonstop, but Mazu introduced him to the stone monk in Nanyue.
Mazu, a disciple of Huineng, the sixth ancestor of Zen Buddhism, was named Ming Dow I, also known as Mazu Yi Dao. Because of the promotion of Zen in Jiangxi, it is also known as "Jiangxi Mazu". He was supported by officials in Hongzhou, Jiangxi, and had a great influence. He is known as the ancestor of Hongzhou School and "Mazu". During the Tang Dynasty (766-779 AD), he lived in Kaiyuan Temple in Zhong Ling.

One day, the stone master told his disciples to weed in front of the hall with tools early tomorrow morning. The next day, the disciples brought their own shovels, hoes, shovels and other tools to shovel grass with great interest. But naturally, a person is washing his hair with wooden basin water. After washing his hair, he politely walked up to the stone master with his right knee on the ground and his left knee upright. This is called "Hu Kneeling", which is a courtesy of the Brahma monks in the Western Regions. You know the meaning of a stone when you look at it, which should also be a sign of natural enlightenment, so you cut his hair, shaved his beard and said a warning for him. Naturally, I know that I have achieved my goal, and I am officially a monk. Before the stone master finished, I ran out of the temple covering my ears and disappeared for a while.

Naturally, I went to visit Mazu at Kaiyuan Temple in Zhong Ling, Jiangxi. However, when I arrived at Mazu Zen Hall, I didn't go to the abbot to worship Mazu immediately, but went to the monk's hall. Mazu was silent for a long time before he said, "Oh, my son is natural?" Hearing this, nature jumped down with a brush and bowed respectfully to Mazu, saying, "Thank you, teacher, for giving me this name." "Nature" has spread.
Mazu asked, "Where are you from?" Natural answer: "Stone."
Mazu asked again, "The stone road is slippery, will it fall?"
Nature replied, "If I fall, I won't come." For a long time, Mazu nodded. Naturally, I learned my own way and status and gained the seal of Mazu. So he paid tribute to Mazu and visited everywhere.
Naturally, I first went to the peak of Tiantai Mountain, lived for three years, and then went to Yuhang (now Hangzhou) to see Master Guo Yi. During the Yuanhe period of Tang Xianzong (806-820 AD), he went north to Luoyang, lived in Xiangshan Temple in Longmen, and became foreign friends with Master Funiu.
Soon, nature moved to Huilin Temple in Luoyang. The climate in Luoyang is particularly cold this winter. In order to keep warm, the wooden Buddha statue in Daxiong Hall was naturally cut into small pieces with a sharp axe and burned. The monks were shocked. Although they can't do anything about him, they keep saying cold words and hot words. Naturally, they disagreed, but smiled and said to the monks, "I cremated the Buddhist relics to get support!" " The monk said, "Where will the wood burn the relics?" Nature answered slowly, "Since everyone knows it's wood, why do you blame me?" The monks had nothing to say, so they went away disgruntled.
One morning in the third year of Yuanhe (AD 808), I naturally passed Tianjin Bridge. As soon as I got to the bridge, I lay down on my back, as if enjoying the breeze and the waning moon, which hindered many pedestrians. Just then, Zheng Yuqing, who was left in Du Dong, passed by, and the attendants shouted loudly to open the way for him. Before nature, he is still me. Zheng Yuqing had to stop the carriage and send someone to ask, but naturally he leaned back and said slowly, "Nothing is a monk, nothing is a monk." Zheng Yuqing was surprised by his natural behavior and appreciated his courage and tolerance. Not only was he not guilty, but he was also given a bundle of glutinous rice and two pieces of clothes, and rice noodles were distributed by the government every month. Zheng Yuqing's actions caused a sensation in Luoyang city for a while, and his natural fame became bigger and bigger. Many Luoyang people came to him and were willing to be taught.
In the spring of the fifteenth year of Yuanhe (AD 8 15), he naturally got tired of the city life in Luoyang. He said to his disciples, "I am eager for mountains and springs now." So, from Luoyang to the south, I lived in Danxia Mountain in Nanyang, Dengzhou. As many as 300 monks in Luoyang followed him. In this way, the temple was expanded into a temple, named Danxia Temple, and it became a natural place to preach Zen.
The Zen method of natural communication is different, although it is moved by hope, Mazu spreads. Never praise Buddha in front of monks, but swear at will; He even openly said to his disciples in the meditation hall, "All of you have a place today. What do you doubt?"? Zen is something you know? Is there a Buddha? I never like to hear a word from the Buddha! " "As it happens, Manjusri is convenient for Pu Xian. Scholars nowadays ask questions in meditation. " Disciples naturally listened with relish and savored it carefully, but they were sincere. Among many Zen scholars, "natural Zen" is unique and learns from many scholars.
One day in June in the fourth year of Tang Muzong Changqing (AD 824), I said to my disciples, "Get ready to take a bath, I'm leaving!" So, after taking a shower, I put on a straw hat, leaned on the insurance policy, wore sandals, landed with one foot, and sat down with one foot before landing. At the age of 86. " The old woman immediately said, "Your" Qinglong Shuchao "is about the Diamond Sutra, so I ask you. The scripture says: You can't get a heart in the past, you can't get a heart in the future, and you can't get a heart now. I wonder which heart you want to order? " Deshan had nothing to say, and could not answer the old woman's question, so he had to go hungry and soon came to Longtan Temple.
The abbot of Longtan Temple is named Longtan. Deshan came to the Dharma Hall, and when he saw no one around, he said loudly, "Longtan is the place I have been longing for for for a long time. But after I came, I didn't see the dragon or the pool. " Longtan just came and then said, "Isn't Longtan where you are now? How come you didn't see anything? " Deshan had nothing to say, so he asked to stay here for a few days.
One day, Deshan chatted with Longtan in class. It was already late at night. Longtan Tunnel: "It's too late, you should go back to rest." Deshan went out of the house, then came back and said, "It's too dark to walk." Longtan lit a lantern, making it look like it was handed to Deshan. Deshan quickly reached out to pick it up, not wanting Longtan to withdraw the lantern and blow it out in one gulp. Virtue, kindness and enlightenment, bow down. Longtan asked, "What do you see?" Deshan replied, "From now on, I will never doubt the tongue of a Zen monk again." The next day, Deshan took out the Buddhist scriptures he had brought and burned them in front of the Dharma Hall. When he lit it, Deshan said, "If all the mysterious arguments are poor, it would be too empty; Running out of cardinals in the world seems to be a bit of a huge ditch. This means that human knowledge, no matter how mysterious, is like a hair and a drop of water compared with nature. Since then, Deshan has lived in Fengyang for 30 years. Instead of extinguishing Zen, he became a famous Zen monk and trained many Zen disciples.
