Finger measurement

Finger measurement is a measurement method to estimate the size of body parts or organs with fingers as a measuring tool.

This method is usually used for acupoint positioning and acupuncture treatment in traditional Chinese medicine, also known as "finger-inch method".

In finger measurement, fingers such as middle finger, thumb, index finger, ring finger and little finger are usually used, and different fingers are selected for measurement according to different measurement requirements. Among them, the middle finger is one of the most commonly used fingers. Because the length of the middle finger is close to the height and sitting height of the human body, it can be used as a reference to estimate the size of other parts.

The same size of thumb refers to the measurement unit of thumb interphalangeal joint, which is used to measure the relative distance between some parts of the body. Cross-finger body size refers to putting the index finger, middle finger, ring finger and little finger together and measuring the relative distance between some parts of the body with the width of the four fingers as the measuring unit.

In specific applications, different fingers can be selected according to the measured length. For example, if you want to measure the length of a certain part of your body, you can pick up the skin with your thumb and middle finger and then measure the distance. If you want to measure the width or thickness of a certain part of your body, you can put your index finger and ring finger at both ends of the part and then measure the distance.

The finger measuring method comprises the following steps:

1, the middle finger is the same size: when the middle finger flexes, it is 1 inch between the knuckles at both ends inside the middle section.

2. The thumb is the same size: the width of thumb interphalangeal joint is 1 inch.

3. The fingers are the same size: when the index finger, middle finger, ring finger and little finger are close together, the width of the four fingers is 3 inches.

4. Skeleton measurement method: This method is a method to determine the measurement position according to human skeletal markers. Bone measurement is a relatively accurate measurement method, but it requires certain professional knowledge and skills to measure.

5. Finger pinch measurement: This method estimates the size of a certain part of the body by pinching with fingers. This method is usually used to estimate the thickness or length of a body part.

6. Visual comparison method: This method estimates the size of body parts by visual inspection. For example, the size of the patient's fingers, toes and other parts can be estimated, but attention should be paid to maintaining the correct posture and position during observation.
