Crossing the sea with Eight Immortals is one of the most popular folklore of Han nationality. One of the most well-known stories of the Eight Immortals was first seen in the zaju Crossing the Sea to Get the Jade Board. According to legend, when the peony in Penglai Xiandao was in full bloom, Baiyun Fairy invited the Eight Immortals and Five Immortals to attend the ceremony. On the return trip, Tie Guai Li (or Lv Dongbin) advised them to find a way by themselves, instead of taking a boat.
