Yancheng dialect generally belongs to the Jianghuai Mandarin area, and there are many dialects between the Central Plains Mandarin and the northern Mandarin and Wu dialect, which can be roughly divided into three dialect areas:

Fu Bin dialect area, including Xiangshui, Binhai and Funing counties and the area north of Huangshagang in Sheyang County;

Jianyan dialect area, including tinghu district, Yandu District, jianhu county and the area south of Huangsha Port in Sheyang County and north of Doulong Port in Dafeng City;

Taifeng dialect area includes the area south of Doulonggang in Dafeng District and Dongtai City.

Compared with Mandarin, the biggest phonetic feature of Yancheng dialect is that it has more tones. There are several main features:

2. The initials of "Gai", "Rao" and "Fan" in Dongtai and other places are "J", "Q" and "X" respectively;

3. In many areas, the flat tongue sounds are indistinguishable, and most of them are usually pronounced as flat tongue sounds;

In most areas, en and eng, in and ing are mixed, and most of them are pronounced as en and in.
