Chinese mainland government strictly restricts the use of local languages in public places to "promote Putonghua". Especially after the reform and opening up in 1980s, with the more frequent interpersonal communication and the rapid development of media such as radio and television, Gan dialect has been impacted by more and more northern dialects, so that some people in the younger generation can no longer use the pure Gan dialect, or even can't use it. On the other hand, because middle-aged and elderly people have no training in Putonghua, they usually speak Putonghua with a strong accent of Gan dialect, thus forming an interesting "plastic Putonghua". In recent years, the voice of protecting local language and culture is getting higher and higher in China, and Gan dialect has gradually stepped onto the mass media.
