In the minds of ancient emperors and ministers, it is very important and sacred to determine what kind of year number and year. According to the Chronology of Chinese History, there were 708 titles used by emperors in past dynasties. After the death of the ancient emperor of China, later emperors will give him another special title, which is posthumous title. Shuowen explained this: "A teacher is also a trace of his actions." Temple name is also a title after death, but it is different from posthumous title. The word "temple" is interpreted in Shuowen as: "Temple respects ancestors' appearance." Compared with posthumous title, temple names use fewer words, and they are all praise words.

Take the Ming emperor as an example.
