Shandong is one of the birthplaces of Taoism, from which many primitive beliefs, myths and Taoism have emerged and flourished, forming a unique and splendid Taoist culture. The famous Taoist temples include Dai Temple, Tai 'an Temple, Laoshan Taiqing Palace, Qixia Taixu Palace, Mingxiadong, Laoshan Taiping Palace and temples. The Taoist temples built in Shandong mainly focus on the Taoist belief of Jiang Shang, the ancestor of Qi State, the Penglai myth with the belief of crossing the sea with three gods and eight immortals as the main content, the Yanxian Taoism with the aim of immortality, the Quanzhen Taoism under the banner of integrating the three religions and practicing inner alchemy, and the pilgrimage to the mountains centered on Dongyue Emperor and Yuan Jun.

There are Buddhist temples in Jinan, including xingguo temple, which was built on the Qianfo Mountain in the Tang Dynasty. Every day, there are an endless stream of tourists climbing the mountain to worship, and the incense is flourishing. However, Taoism, a local religion in Jinan, is still relatively prosperous, probably because Jinan is located under Mount Tai.
