"Cultural Weizhou" Tianxian Palace and Wang Yao Temple (2)

Among many temple fairs in wei county, Tianxian Palace Temple Fair is the most lively. Every year, the ninth day of the first month is the birthday of the Jade Emperor, and April 28th is the birthday of Sun Simiao, the medicine king. Sacrificial activities in these two days, commonly known as Nangong Temple Fair, reached its peak in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. At the temple fair, the palace gate opened early, the door was swept clean, and incense was lit everywhere. Male and female pilgrims from cities and rural areas came one after another. They paid God's will, cured diseases, sought medical advice, and so on. At the temple fair, there were people who climbed stools and sang operas, people who used to read fortune, and people who read palms. Even all kinds of traders came to make a fortune. The front street of Nangong Temple, which is no more than 100 meters long and less than 20 feet wide, was packed until the sun went down, and people gradually dispersed. During the Republic of China, the sacrificial activities here gradually declined. After the statue was removed, but every year on the birthday of the drug king, many pilgrims still came to the old pagoda tree to pray for Sun Simiao, the drug king, to give eye drops and recover from eye diseases as soon as possible.

Tianxian Palace was demolished in the 12th year of the Republic of China (1923), and its front yard was changed to Wenchang Pavilion Primary School in the southeast town of Wei County (named after Wenchang Pavilion in the southeast corner of the city wall). After War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression's victory, the name of the school was changed to Wei County Southeast Town Center Ethnic School. After liberation, it was changed to Weifang No.2 Primary School, Nangong Street Primary School and Weicheng District Teacher Training School.

In 1930s, due to the expansion of the school, the statue of Wang Yaotang was demolished and merged with the courtyard of Tianxian Palace.
