What do you mean, solitary yin is not born, and solitary yang is not long?

Xue Xin Fu, an ancient geomantic book, said that solitary yang is not born and solitary yin is not long.

Yin and Yang are not isolated and static, but have a relationship of relativity, dependence, growth and decline and transformation. Now described as follows:

(1) Relativity of Yin and Yang: Yin and Yang are two attributes of things, representing two aspects of contradiction, opposition and unity respectively. It is a summary of the opposites of interrelated things and phenomena in nature. If the sky is yang and the earth is yin; Sunny during the day and cloudy at night; The upper part is yang, and the lower part is yin; Heat is yang and cold is yin; Positive and negative electricity, etc. All this shows that everything in the universe exists in opposition, but the yin and yang attributes of things are not absolute, but relative, and must be determined according to the conditions of mutual comparison. As far as the human body is concerned, the body surface is yang and the internal organs are yin; As far as the five internal organs are concerned, the six internal organs belong to yang and the five internal organs are yin; As far as the five internal organs are concerned, the heart and lung belong to yang in the upper part, and the liver and kidney belong to yin in the lower part; As far as the kidney is concerned, the "essence" hidden in the kidney is yin, and the "fire of life gate" of the kidney belongs to yang. It can be seen that the yin and yang attributes of things are relative.

(2) Mutual root of Yin and Yang: Ancient physicians called it "mutual root of Yin and Yang". There are some sayings in Chinese medicine, such as "Yang roots in Yin, Yin roots in Yang", "Solitary Yin is not born, solitary Yang is not long", "Without Yang, Yin is not born, and without Yin, Yang is not transformed". That is to say, Yang is connected with Yin, and Yin is connected with Yang. There is a mutual relationship between them-that is, neither Yang nor Yin can exist separately from the other. In nature, the exterior is yang and the interior is yin; The upper part is yang, the lower part is yin, the daytime is yang, and the night is yin. If there is no upper, outer and day, it is impossible to explain the lower, inner and night. Physiologically speaking, functional activities belong to yang, while nutrition (body fluid, essence and blood, etc.). ) is yin. Various nutrients are the material basis of functional activities. With adequate nutrition, functional activities will flourish. On the other hand, the source of nutrients is absorbed through the functional activities of internal organs.

The above shows that the two depend on each other, live and die together, and there is no yang without yin. If there is only yin without yang, or there is yang without yin, it is bound to be like the saying in Neijing: "Lonely yang is not born, lonely yin is not long", then everything will stagnate.

(3) The rise and fall of Yin and Yang: It means that the two sides of Yin and Yang move and change forever on the basis of opposition and mutual roots, and the phenomena of "Yin eliminating Yang and Yang eliminating Yin" constantly appear, which is the process of development and change of all things. For example, the climate change in the four seasons, from winter solstice to spring in Zhixia, gradually turns from cold to hot, which is a process of "yin disappears and yang grows"; From summer solstice to autumn winter, from hot to cold, it is also a process of "yang eliminating yin and growing long" Due to the ups and downs of Yin and Yang in the four seasons, there are cold, hot and cool changes. Everything can be grown and collected. If the climate loses its normal state and changes abnormally, disaster will occur.

Clinically, different clinical syndromes are explained by the rise and fall of yin and yang (that is, the rise and fall of yin and yang). For example, cold belongs to yin and yin is abundant, so you will see cold syndrome, such as stomach cold, abdominal pain and diarrhea after cold; When heat belongs to yang, heat syndrome can be seen, such as acute pneumonia, high fever, thirst, skin redness and other acute fever symptoms. Some debilitating diseases are caused by deficiency of yin and yang rather than excess. If the yin of a viscera is insufficient, it is called "yin deficiency", that is, the yin disappears and the "yang" is relatively prominent. Because heat belongs to yang, yin deficiency leads to heat syndrome. This phenomenon is called "deficiency heat". If the yang of a viscera is insufficient, it is called yang deficiency. At this time, Yin qi is relatively prominent. Because cold belongs to yang, so yang deficiency sees cold syndrome. This phenomenon is called deficiency cold.

Under normal circumstances, Yin and Yang are often in a relatively balanced state. If the relationship between "ebb and flow" exceeds a certain limit and the relative balance cannot be maintained, a certain aspect of yin and yang will flourish and decline, leading to the occurrence of diseases.

(4) Transformation of Yin and Yang: refers to androgyny. Under certain conditions and at a certain stage of development, both sides can be transformed into opposite aspects, and Yin can be transformed into Yang and Yin, which is called "Yin-Yang transformation".

If "the rise and fall of yin and yang" is a quantitative change process, then transformation is a qualitative change process. In Su Wen, the so-called "heavy yin will lead to yang, double ninth will lead to yin", "extreme cold leads to heat" and "extreme heat leads to cold". It is possible to change to the hot direction when it is extremely cold, and to the cold direction when it is extremely hot. For example, some acute febrile diseases, due to extremely heavy pathogenic heat, consume a lot of healthy qi. In the case of persistent high fever, a group of yin-cold crises such as hypothermia, cold limbs and slightly heartbroken pulse may suddenly appear. The change of this disease is from yang to yin. If the rescue is timely and handled properly, the healthy qi will be restored, the limbs will be warmer, the color pulse will be harmonious, the yang will be restored, and the condition will be improved. In addition, the common clinical changes from real to virtual, from virtual to real, from outside to inside, from inside to outside are also examples of yin-yang transformation.

The relationship between universality and particularity of contradiction is the relationship between universality and individuality of contradiction. Its commonality is that contradictions exist in all processes and run through all processes. Contradiction is a movement, a thing, a process and an idea. To deny the contradiction of things is to deny everything. This is a universal truth, no exception can be made at all times and in all countries.

Identity, unity, consistency, mutual penetration, mutual penetration, interdependence (or dependence), mutual connection or mutual cooperation, these different nouns all have the same meaning, which refers to the following two situations: First, the two aspects of every contradiction in the development of things take the opposite aspects as their own premise, and the two sides are in a unity; Second, the two sides of the contradiction, according to certain conditions, turned to their own opposites. These are so-called identities.

Contradictory aspects cannot exist in isolation. If there is no opposition from the contradictory party, one's own party will lose the conditions for existence.

All contradictory things are interrelated, not only a unity under certain conditions, but also mutual transformation under certain conditions, which is the whole meaning of contradictory identity.
