Why can't we serve three courses?

What are the most taboo dishes on the table?

The so-called "no three dishes" means that when entertaining guests, the dishes served on the table cannot be three dishes. The third is singular, which sounds unlucky. On the occasion of serving three dishes, it is often only put at the time of sacrifice, and the object of sacrifice is of course the dead. Entertaining guests with three or more dishes will be understood as cursing the death of the guests.

Secondly, the homonym of "three" means dissolution. People in China are used to using homophonic words, such as pear, which means "separation". At present, when entertaining guests in many rural areas, if they find that the dishes on the table can't make up an even number, they will choose pickles and other foods as the number of dishes to break the odd number of dishes.
