Why would you rather commit suicide than be shot by the enemy on the battlefield?

This situation is rare. Even the Japanese imperial army, once famous for its bushido spirit, did not say that it often committed suicide. Japanese soldiers/samurai didn't commit suicide casually. When committing suicide, someone should be behind him, cut off his head or kill him when he has a laparotomy to alleviate his pain (this is shown in The Last Samurai). Casual suicide will not be regarded as loyalty to the emperor.
