The Historical Evolution of Huangcun Town

During the Jin and Yuan Dynasties, due to the flood of the ancient Hun River (now Yongding River) and the deposition of wind and sand, a large area of sand dune wasteland was formed in this area, hence the name of decadence. The homonym of the Yuan Dynasty was called Huangcun. Huangcun in Ming Dynasty has developed into a central market town in nearby areas. In the early Qing Dynasty, the Royal Forbidden Park Nanhaizi was renovated, and Haizimen was built in the east of Huangcun Village, named Huangcun Gate. During the reign of Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty, Huangcun has developed into an important commercial activity center in Daxing District, with more than ten firms including Yulong and Guang Shun Store. Huangcun is connected with Xishan Mountain and Yanling Mountain, with dense population and prosperous market, and is known as "the blessed land in the south of Beijing". In the 22nd year of Guangxu reign in Qing Dynasty (1896), the Beijing-Tianjin Railway was completed and opened to traffic, with a station south of Huangcun. In the eastern part of Huangcun area, there is "Shandong Avenue into Beijing" (now Jingkai Highway), which is known as the south gate of Beijing.
