Almost all dialects in Zhejiang are Wu dialect. Why is internal communication so difficult?

There are several reasons why internal communication in Zhejiang is so difficult. First, because of the terrain, second, because of the traffic, third, because of the foreign population, and fourth, there is no unified official dialect.

1. Topographic reasons

There are many mountains in Zhejiang, which divide Zhejiang into pieces. People in this land developed independently and developed many different dialects. It is said that there are as many as eighty dialects in Zhejiang. It's hard to imagine how so many dialects developed. It's amazing, but no matter how they developed, it will have something to do with their terrain. One side of the soil and water supports one side of the people, separated by a mountain, and the living environment is different.

Because of the topography, mountains and inconvenient transportation in Zhejiang, people in every place are not easy to meet, so what they say is different. As the saying goes, a hundred miles of different sounds, a hundred miles of different customs, so the local accent will be much worse, communication will not be so smooth. However, the local dialects with convenient transportation are similar, and there are also modes of transportation such as shipping, so there are still local dialects in Zhejiang.

3. As far as the foreign population is concerned.

In fact, there were some immigrants in Zhejiang, some of whom could not escape there during the war, and there were quite a few refugees. If there are few people, they will be assimilated quickly, and if there are many people, they will speak their mother tongue. With the passage of time, immigrants' dialects may be influenced by other languages later, forming another Zhejiang dialect.

4. There is no unified official dialect

There is no unified dialect in Zhejiang, that is to say, there is no definition of dialect. Moreover, it is very different from Mandarin. Foreigners may have learned a dialect, but they still can't. For example, although there are differences in dialects in the north, most of them can understand except for some things called differently.
