With a history of more than 2,000 years, it now governs Shizhong District, Dongxing District, Longchang City, Zizhong County, Weiyuan County, Neijiang Economic and Technological Development Zone and Neijiang High-tech Industrial Development Zone.

"One division, two phases, three champions and four outstanding figures" shines in history, "Academician Neijiang" shines in the starry sky, and "hometown of Daqian", "hometown of calligraphy and painting" and "hometown of culture" are well-known at home and abroad.

Neijiang is located in the center of Chengdu-Chongqing, enjoying the reputation of "the heart of Chengdu-Chongqing", with obvious geographical advantages and convenient transportation. In Chengdu and Chongqing, Neijiang is a national key transportation hub, an important intersection of the Belt and Road, the second largest transportation hub in Sichuan and the southwest land transportation hub. It is known as the "Southwest Throat" and "Bashu Fortress".

Neijiang is dominated by hills, and the southeast and southwest are surrounded by low mountains. The hills between 350-450 meters above sea level account for about 90%. The geological structure belongs to a part of the Neocathaysian subsidence zone, and the fold scale is small. The surface is composed of gentle purple sandstone, which is mostly round and ridged shallow hills after water erosion. The valleys between hills are long and straight, mostly trapezoidal gentle slopes from the top of the mountain to the valley, forming layers of steps.

The surface layer of the step is mainly composed of soil, coarse sand and red sand, soybean powder soil and yellow soil, which has good water retention and strong drought resistance and is beneficial to crop growth. Lianmushan, 834 meters above sea level, is the highest point in Neijiang, and it is also the watershed where Qingxi flows to Tuojiang and Yuexi flows to Minjiang.
