Regional Introduction of Yuyao Dialect

Is Yuyao dialect really similar to other dialects?

Yuyao dialect, especially Yuyao dialect, has developed and changed in recent years, mixed with many putonghua pronunciations, and has become more and more popular. However, it is undeniable that Yuyao dialect, as a kind of Wu dialect, has the characteristics of strong nasal sound, strong accent, long and warped pronunciation, many nicknames (nasal sound) and many falsetto sounds (with sounds but no words), which is still difficult for outsiders to interpret. Yuyao County has always belonged to Shaoxing since it was founded, so Yuyao dialect can communicate with Shaoxing and Shangyu, and basically has the same dialect grammar, while Xiaoshan District of Hangzhou originally belonged to Shaoxing, so Xiaoshan dialect sounds similar to Yuyao dialect. However, as Yuyao was included in Ningbo, Ningbo dialect has been constantly influencing Cixi in Yuyao, and the communication with Shaoxing and Shangyu has become less. Some young people sometimes don't even understand Shaoxing dialect and Shangyu dialect.

Southeast China was once the most famous city and country in literature.

The cultural heritage is profound.

The Night Boat written by Zhang Dai in the Ming Dynasty tells the cultural background of Yuyao people: "I miss my Bayue (referring to the eight counties in Shaoxing: Yin Shan, Huiji, Xiaoshan, Zhuji, Yuyao, Shangyu, Sheng and Xinchang), only Yuyao customs, young boys, all of whom study and then learn to do crafts." Yuyao people, who study first and then learn arts, are literate and economical, and indeed have a solid foundation, ranking second to none among Shaoxing counties. Yuyao and Qufu, Shandong Province are both called "the hometown of literature".

There are many scholars, champions and outstanding figures.

Since the Tang and Song Dynasties, Yuyao has been in the forefront of cities in China in terms of the number of scholars, the number of top scholars and the number of outstanding figures. There were more than 400 scholars in Guangming, including Yu Fan, Yu, Yu Shinan, Wang Yangming, Huang Zongxi, Shao, Jiang Menglin and Yu. Therefore, it has the reputation of "Yao Jiangzi is the best in the world" and "Zhu Zigui is full of four Ming people", and Liang Qichao spoke highly of Yuyao. There are five Yuyao people who won the top prize: Mo Zichun in the second year of Song Qingyuan, Fang in the third year of Song Dynasty, Han Yinglong in the eleventh year of Ming Chenghua (from a late official to a college student), the seventeenth year of Chenghua (the father of Wang Yangming) and the fourteenth year of Jiajing. Especially in the 14th year of Jiajing, there were 325 Jinshi admitted to one subject in China, Yuyao County admitted to 17, and even the champion (Han Yinglong) and runner-up (Sun Sheng).

Fertile land, beautiful scenery and rich products.

1954 When Yuyao was transferred to Ningbo, it had a population of 680,000, while Cixi had a population of only 230,000. After county adjustment, the population of Yuyao County is 450,000, and that of Cixi County is 600,000. By 20 12, the population of Yuyao will be10/000, and that of Cixi will be 1460. So Yuyao at that time was a big county in China, rich in celadon, Buddha carving, waxberry, mustard tuber, dried vegetables, cabbage, cotton, honey pear, water bamboo, grapes and so on. The land is fertile and the products are extremely rich. It has the titles of "Hometown of Plastics in China", "Hometown of Mould in China", "Hometown of Myrica rubra in China", "Hometown of Pickles in China", "Hometown of Honey Pear in China" and "Hometown of Zizania latifolia in China".

It has a long history and can rival the Central Plains.

Not to mention the sites of Hemudu and Luotianshan with a history of more than 7,000 years, and the site of Yuelao in Shanglinhu, which was included in Cixi in 1984. Yuyao's written records began in the Shun and Yu periods, and there were the sayings of "Shun Li Gengshan" and "Yu Zang Mi Tu" successively. In Yuyao, there are also Lishan Mountain and the Secret Map Mountain of Dayu Water Control Treasure Map. Yuyao and Shangyu are the places where the descendants of Shun live (the surname of Shun is Yao, and Yaojiang is also called Shunjiang), so they are called "the land of Yu Shun". Yuyao belonged to the State of Yue in the Spring and Autumn Period and became the jurisdiction of Chu in the middle of the Warring States Period. Yuyao County was built in the Qin Dynasty, with a history of more than 2,200 years. The history of Zhejiang's founding is only later than Shaoxing (Huiji).

The most famous city in southeast China.

Yuyao's administrative position has been repeated in history. In the Qin Dynasty, it was "Wang Xian", second only to the suburban counties of Beijing at that time. In the fourth year of Tang Wude, Yaozhou was located in the east, Mingzhou in the east and Shangyu in the west. It was called "Wangxian County" in the Song Dynasty, and it was called "the most famous city in the southeast of China". Zhenyuan Year (1295) was changed to Yuyao House. Its status was once equal to Shaoxing (Yuezhou) and Ningbo (Mingzhou)!
