A linguistic survey of Xianning dialect

Xianning dialect should be the dialect of Xianning area, including Xian 'an District, Tongshan County, Jiayu County, Chongyang County, Tongcheng County and chibi city in Xianning City, Jiangxia District near Wuhan City, Yangxin County and daye city in Huangshi City and Liangzihu District (Taihe District) in Ezhou City. Xian 'an District of Xianning City (formerly Xianning County) is located in the center of this "Xianning area" and the seat of Xianning Municipal Government. Therefore, Xianning dialect is generally represented by "Xianning dialect (Xian 'an dialect)".

Xianning dialect in Hubei is not the same as the so-called Hubei dialect, so it has attracted the attention of some dialect researchers, experts and scholars, with a large number of people and a high degree of attention. Before liberation, Fang Guili, Ding Shengshu, Wu Zongji, Shi and others from the Central Institute of History and Linguistics specially organized people to investigate Xianning dialect, and the Hubei Dialect Investigation Report published by 1948 was published in volumes. After liberation, Hubei dialect scholars visited Xianning for three times, Peking University and beijing language and culture university organized teachers and students to conduct language surveys in Xianning for many times, and Japanese scholar Ryutaro Hashimoto also conducted field surveys in Xianning.
