1949 After liberation, Gao Xin worked as a Taoist in Yuhuangshan, Hangzhou, and later became a famous Chinese medicine practitioner in Hangzhou. Since 1985 took over the dilapidated Baopuzi monastery, through more than 20 years' efforts, Gao Xin led the Taoist people to overcome all difficulties and rebuild the Baopuzi monastery, which was completely destroyed during the Cultural Revolution, to flourish. Believers and tourists who have been to Baopuzi Daoyuan can't help feeling, "I didn't expect such a delicate Baopuzi Daoyuan to live in seclusion on Geling Mountain near such a beautiful West Lake. 」

For decades, it has been difficult to find a long-term reception for Gao Xin and arrange accommodation in Daoyuan, Baopuzi, Hangzhou. Friends jokingly called Gao Daochang an "iron rooster", while Gao Xin, as a director, did not agree with the title of "iron rooster" and simply said "Taoist-monk, simple as it is. 」

A Taoist needs to endure loneliness.

Gao Xin, who has been a monk for a long time, often said, "I was born at the age of six, and now I am 76 years old. I am experiencing two completely different times in the history of Taoism. Taoism was banned as a feudal superstition during the Cultural Revolution, and now it is facing a good development opportunity with the gradual and in-depth implementation of the religious policy of the Party and the government. As an old man, I am always full of joy and emotion. 」

Gao Xin said: "In today's market economy era, many Taoist priests can't stand meditation and loneliness. Seeing feng shui, fortune telling and divination have become the means of Taoist "alms". Many people who used to be "poor" have now become "rich" or "bosses". Taoist priests should bear hardships and stand hard work, endure loneliness and concentrate on practicing internal strength. Taoism can only revitalize its glory if it is down to earth. 」

Anxiously educate the younger generation.

Gao Xin has repeatedly felt that due to the influence of market economy, western culture and religion, Taoism has no successor at present. He said that the existing Taoist priests over the age of 65 have feelings for religion and a sense of mission. Although they did not give up after the impact of the Cultural Revolution, they returned to various temples to guide and educate their disciples after implementing the religious policy. When these old people die in the future, Taoism will face a new survival crisis if there is no suitable successor with firm belief. Therefore, the urgent need for the development of Taoism lies in cultivating the younger generation of Taoist talents.

Gao Xin believes that the current Taoist community should make efforts in the following aspects: First, strengthen the "mentoring system" through the support of old Taoist priests. Secondly, Taoism depends on time, place and people, but the belief and pursuit of Taoism cannot be changed.

Third, pay attention to cultivating the religious feelings of Taoists, not money. In order to train post-graduate students, special courses should be arranged to educate young Taoist priests on doctrines, canon, religious knowledge, music, religious management and financial management, and groups should be organized to participate in the study from time to time.
