Yunnan province is located at 97 31'~1061'east longitude and 218' ~ 2915' north latitude. The Tropic of Cancer runs through the south of the province and belongs to the low latitude inland area. The maximum horizontal distance from east to west in the province is 864.9 kilometers, and the maximum vertical distance from north to south is 990 kilometers.

Yunnan is located in the southwest border of China, bordering Guizhou Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in the east, Sichuan Province in the north, Xizang Autonomous Region in the northwest, Myanmar in the west and Laos and Vietnam in the south.

Yunnan is one of the provinces with the longest border in China, and 25 border counties in 8 states (cities) border Myanmar, Laos and Viet Nam respectively.
