Yellowbird likes to eat the seeds of oil crops, such as perilla, peanuts, walnuts and sunflower seeds. The yellowbird just caught can be lured by perilla seeds, but it can't be fed for a long time to prevent obesity. It is usually a mixture of seeds, millet, barnyard grass and a small amount of millet. When the yellowbird eats, it often picks perilla and removes other seeds, resulting in waste. It is best to feed the powder mixture. Corn, peanuts and perilla can be ground into powder according to the ratio of 3: 1: 1, and a small amount of sand and leafy vegetables can also be added. Yellowbird should get more sunshine in spring, autumn and winter, but it is not suitable for exposure in summer. It is best to put it outdoors in a cool and ventilated place.

Breeding wild yellow nests in trees. The nest is deep cup-shaped and consists of grass stems, roots, feathers and fibers. Laying eggs in summer, 4-6 per nest. Eggs are light blue with light brown and purple spots. The female guards the nest and the male feeds the female. The incubation period is about 13 days. Although males are also involved in brooding, they are mainly females.

There have been successful examples of artificial reproduction. You can raise several pairs in a cage first. If you find an intimate pair, put it in a breeding cage and install an artificial grass nest, it is possible to lay eggs and hatch.

In addition to molting, yellowbird sings all day, and the singing time can reach 8 months every year. Beijing has strict requirements on the chirping of yellowbird, paying attention to the "three big mouths", namely the chirping of magpie, red chick (swamp tit) and oil gourd. And there is no "miscellaneous mouth", especially the sound of birds such as Taiping birds, finches and goldfinches. It is quite difficult to train the yellowbird's "three mouths". It is necessary to strictly isolate the young birds, get up early often, carry the well-covered yellowbird back to the Woods where the gray magpie lives, and then open the cage for the yellowbird to listen to. It takes about 20 days to learn to crow. It is easier for him to learn the name of oil gourd. Keep a few oil hyacinths at home, and let the yellowbird sing at night, and you can learn. As for learning red chicks, raising a red chick at home will take a long time for yellowbird to learn.
