There are many legends about the origin of the White Horse Temple. In the 12th year of Wanli of Ming Dynasty (1584), the third Dalai Lama went to You Ning Temple and other places and passed through here. It is said that when his mount died, he built a white horse in the temple, hence the name White Horse Temple.

This temple is the first Buddhist temple built by Amdo, similar to the White Horse Temple in Henan, hence its name. White Horse Temple, called Jingangya Temple, is a statue of the Buddha under the cliff, with its back against the dangerous peak and facing the Huangshui River. Looking ahead, the left hand holds the bowl and the right hand stretches forward, as if pushing the Huangshui River. Baima Temple, also known as Juehua Temple, was taken from Lachin Gongbarao, the originator of Tibetan Buddhism, where he "consciously" and "enlightened the masses". After the opening ceremony, he preached Buddhism and Taoism until his death.
