How many misunderstandings does Buddhism have?
First, there are more and more people studying Buddhism now, but when they first came into contact with Buddhism, they were misled by the world because they didn't have a wise teacher to protect themselves, or they misunderstood Buddhism, so they often went into some misunderstandings and had wrong opinions about learning Buddhism.
This will not only lead to serious misunderstanding of faith, but also mislead others and make them misunderstand Buddhism. Not only will it not promote Buddhism, but it will also seriously affect the image of Buddhism.
Second, common misunderstandings in learning Buddhism.
1, Buddhism is considered to be negative and a place for escapers.
Many modern people think that Buddhism treats life and life negatively, especially some disciples who have just entered Buddhism. Influenced by this fashion, they will feel pessimistic and world-weary.
Others, when life is not smooth, career is blocked, love is frustrated, and career is blocked, the first thing that comes to mind is: I want to become a monk. What is this? This is to learn Buddhism as a means of escape. I think learning Buddhism can avoid the pain I should bear, but I don't want to bear it or I can't bear it.
What is a Buddha? Buddha is the awakened one. What is the purpose of practicing Buddhism? It is to explore the mysteries of life, nature and the universe. The road to practicing Buddhism requires arduous perseverance. Many great virtues have made unimaginable efforts to gain supreme enlightenment. The path of spiritual practice is positive, and it is definitely not a passive escape.
In particular, the spirit of Mahayana Bodhisattva is universal and compassionate. While actively protecting the three treasures, it takes preaching dharma as a housework and benefiting life as a career.
There is a big misunderstanding about chanting Buddha. In my opinion, you can't recite the scriptures at night, in cemeteries and other places, which will attract ghosts.
Some people, who have stubborn misconceptions about the scriptures themselves, are invited home to get a scripture, but they don't even know how to put it. They always feel that they will be disrespectful to the Bodhisattva, and there will be consequences if they don't put it well, so they are uneasy and can't sleep. What's more, they dare not take the scriptures home.
Otherwise, there are many taboos when reading the Bible, such as whether to read it at night, whether to read it when a woman comes to the next month, whether to read it in the hospital, whether to read it all at once, where to read it and so on.
These are all major mistakes in understanding the Bible or scripture. What is scripture? It is the enlightenment of Buddha and the gathering of wisdom. Respect for buddhas and bodhisattvas is from the heart, not superficial efforts.
Especially chanting, so that other sentient beings in the Six Classics can hear the Buddhism, is also a kind of giving of Buddhism and an act of accumulating virtue, so you can recite the scriptures at any time and place as you like.
I believe that if I believe in Buddhism, I must abide by the rules and regulations. I'm afraid I can't stand it and dare not believe in Buddhism.
Influenced by literary works, film and television works, or people who have misunderstandings about Buddhism, many people feel that once they believe in Buddhism, they must abide by various rules and regulations. If they can't do it, they will be troubled and afraid to approach Buddhism.
In fact, it is wrong to confuse the three concepts of "believing in Buddhism", "converting" and "being ordained" and think that this is the same thing.
For all beings, "believing in Buddhism" will not affect your original life trajectory. Simply believing in Buddhism will not force you to do anything and obey any rules. On the contrary, it will make your life more positive and your mind more tolerant. Buddhism has "four not bad", which is to establish firm confidence in the three treasures of Buddhist monks. This is a great merit. Therefore, as long as you believe in Buddhism and Bodhisattva, it is of great benefit to believe in Buddhism.
In fact, there is no condition to force people to "convert". The most important thing is their inner conversion to Buddhism. The only requirement may be that when they believe in Buddhism, they cannot believe in other religions at the same time.
And "being ordained" means "being ordained may not be a monk, but becoming a monk must be ordained", so if you just believe in Buddhism, there is no hard and fast requirement.
As soon as I believe in Buddhism, I feel superior, different from ordinary people and even my family.
Many people sit up and take notice as soon as they learn Buddhism. They always think that you treat me like a Buddhist, and I am different from you. Therefore, I casually criticize my family and people around me with the requirements of Buddhism and the precepts of Buddhism, thinking that I am doing this wrong or doing that badly. After a long time, you will alienate your family and become more and more disharmonious.
What is this? This is a Buddhist barrier.
First of all, all beings are equal. Even if you study Buddhism, you should get along with others. You should know how to "be consistent with all beings" and regard daily life as the Dojo of practice, so that all beings can be happy. Studying Buddhism is to cultivate yourself, not to let you cultivate others, but the opposite.
Secondly, parents and family are the first bodhisattvas around you. You should respect them and cultivate their filial piety, which is the foundation of learning Buddhism, and practicing first is the foundation of being a man.
Moreover, cultivate yourself first, and then cross all beings. If you practice well, you will be kind to the people around you. Everyone will see the power of the Buddha, rejoice in the fate of the Buddha, and gradually get close to Buddhism.
5. It is believed that women should not worship Buddha, recite scriptures or offer lanterns during their physiological period. .....
Many people think that being unable to participate in Buddhist activities during the physiological period is disrespectful to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, that they can't "see blood" in front of the Buddha, or that they are "unclean" for fear of bumping into the Buddha. Even many women feel this way themselves.
This is Jaken's greatest evil knowledge!
Buddhism is aboveboard and everything is forgiven. In the eyes of Buddhists and Bodhisattvas, where is separation, where is purity and impurity? There are clouds in the heart meridian, and the five elements are empty. It is not people who are unclean, but people's eyes and hearts. This is nothing more than thinking about Buddha and Bodhisattva with your own heart. The buddhas and bodhisattvas are merciful and tolerant and will not be blamed for this.
So no matter when, no matter where, no matter what the situation, it is no problem to worship Buddha.
6. I think as long as I "burn incense and worship Buddha", you should bless me and regard Buddhism as a "transaction".
In this world, many people burn incense in temples and kowtow to the Buddha. Do they believe in Buddhism? No, they just regard Buddha and Bodhisattva as a "rocking tree", thinking that if I offer you sacrifices, you have to bless me.
It's true. Worship Buddha and Bodhisattva, and do good deeds wholeheartedly, can we really get the protection and quilt of Buddha and Bodhisattva. But many people go out to do evil after worshipping Buddha, and there is no trace of good thoughts in their hearts.
Many people even worship the Bodhisattva before doing evil, hoping to bless him to do things smoothly. Or after doing evil, ask the Buddha for forgiveness. How is that possible? Everything is cause and effect. No matter how much you burn incense and worship the Buddha, it doesn't make any sense. Karma will come, and the consequences will definitely be eaten.
Sometimes, I don't believe in Buddhism at all on weekdays. Once there is any disaster or difficulty, I will burn incense and worship Buddha everywhere and pray for the blessing of God and Buddha. This is actually useless. Because human disasters are karma, good is rewarded with good, evil with evil, and evil with evil. At this time, the Buddha can't interfere. Unless you turn over a new leaf, sincerely repent, and completely abandon evil and do good.
Third, to sum up, learning Buddhism should have a sincere heart, and as long as you are devoted to goodness, you will get out of the misunderstanding.
