Luoyang Baima Temple Buddha Hall

The Buddha Hall of Baima Temple in Luoyang is located on the north-south central axis. From front to back are the main buildings, such as the mountain gate, the Heavenly King Hall, the Giant Buddha Hall, the Ursa Major Hall, the Jieyin Temple, the Cool Terrace and the Piluge. Among them, Tianwang Hall is a high-rise building, which was built in Yuan Dynasty and rebuilt in Ming Dynasty. It has five wide rooms in the east and five deep rooms in the south and north. In the center of the main hall, there is a Buddhist shrine carved with dragons and gilded in the Forbidden City, which contains the big-bellied Maitreya Buddha of the Ming Dynasty, the Buddha statues of the four heavenly kings and the heavenly generals of Wei Tuo. The Great Buddha Hall was built in the Yuan Dynasty, rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty, and then repaired many times. This is a building built on the mountain, with a high platform and a six-story bucket arch. Five rooms are wide from east to west and three rooms are deep from north to south. It is a place for Buddhist activities in temples and Buddhist chanting in the morning and evening. For Buddha statues, Manjusri, Pu Xian, Ye Jia, Ananda, Tianzun, Guanyin and so on. The clock hanging in the southeast corner of the Great Buddha Hall was cast in the thirty-fourth year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (AD 1555), with a height of 1.65 meters and a weight of 2,500 Jin. Daxiong Hall was built in Tang and Song Dynasties, rebuilt in Yuan Dynasty and rebuilt in Ming Dynasty. It is a building with a high platform and a hanging mountain, with five rooms wide from east to west and three rooms deep from north to south. There are 23 statues of Buddha III and II, eighteen arhats and clay paradise in the temple. Jieyin Temple was built in Ming Dynasty, but it was destroyed by fire in Tongzhi period of Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1862- 1874). During Guangxu period (1875-1908), it was rebuilt in the form of hard mountain, with three wide rooms and two deep rooms, including Amitabha Buddha, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, Great Trend and Two Bodhisattvas. Cool terrace, located in the last part of Baima Temple, is a brick platform with a length of 42.80 meters from east to west, a width of 32.40 meters from north to south and a height of about 6 meters. It is both grand and simple. Perched on the balcony, Piluge is the last hall of Baima Temple, with five wide rooms and four deep rooms. Length 17.03m, width 1 1.7m and height15.5m. The top of the hall is leaning against the double eaves of the mountain, and it is dedicated to Pilufo, Manjusri Bodhisattva and Pu Xian.

The sixth ancestral hall of Baima Temple in Luoyang is located on the west side of the central axis and southwest of the Giant Buddha Hall. There are six ancestors of Zen in the temple. In the middle is the founder Dharma, surrounded by the second ancestor Hui Ke, the third ancestor Sandy, the fourth ancestor Daoxin, the fifth ancestor Hongren and the sixth ancestor Huineng.
