1934, on a rainy night in St. John's College, Cambridge University, England, 20-year-old Guy (Stuart Townsend) was absorbed in his study when a door slammed open and a beautiful woman hurried into the classroom. Guy has never seen such a beautiful woman. It turns out that she is Gilda (Sally Theron), an Anglo-French hybrid who broke in to escape her boyfriend's entanglement.

Guy has just left his working-class family to study in Cambridge. He thinks that life will never change fundamentally again. However, as Gilda, who was born in a famous family, entered his life, a rapid and passionate love began. Although they come from different levels and have different values, they are still hungry for love. They went to Paris together, and Gilda had an apartment there. They enjoyed sweet love and fashionable life.

Shortly after the outbreak of World War II, the two lovers finally broke up because of their different views on current events. Guy can no longer sit back and watch fascism ravage Europe. He decided to go to Spain to join the army, and Gilda's closest friend Mia (Penelope Cruz Sanchez) also planned to go with him. Their blood did not change the outcome of the war, and Mia finally died on the battlefield. Guy lost all confidence in life soon after he returned to England. His letter to Gilda at the front is still on the mantelpiece.

The Nazis began to implement a high-handed policy against the occupied areas of Paris. Guy is now an anti-war intelligence agent. He returned to Paris to contact the local resistance groups. In a very accidental opportunity, he found Gilda, who impressed him deeply, but she was accompanied by a German officer (Thomas Cochman), and they became enemies from then on. Other as usual, Gilda seems to care only about his own existence.
