It is a method used to deduce the good fortune and bad fortune in the whole life movement from birth to death, and it can also be compared to a storage and receiver of information. Why is it also called four pillars? Because people who live on the earth are standing on the ground, just like a pillar of indomitable spirit, and year, month, day and hour represent four generations of ancestors, parents, couples and children respectively. So it's called four pillars.
Tools used: Lunar calendar. The lunar calendar is ephemeris (or perpetual calendar, imperial calendar, lunar calendar, etc. Ephemeris is a calendar made by China in ancient times to develop agricultural production and improve the living standards of working people through long-term "looking up and looking down", thus guiding agricultural production.
So where did heavenly stems and earthly branches come from? Simply put, trunks and branches are ancient time symbols.
To understand the above problems, let's first look at how the ancients formulated the lunar calendar.
Because the calendar is based on the bucket handle of the Big Dipper, twelve dates (namely, Zi, Ugly, Yin, Mao, Chen, Si, Wu, Wei, Shen, You, Xu and Hai), this is the earliest ephemeris in China. The five senses of gold, wood, water, fire and earth were established, and each of them performed its duties and formulated a new calendar. This is the combination of yin and yang. Xuanyuan in March is also called the Yellow Emperor's tortoise shell calendar (referred to as the imperial calendar).
Let's see how the ancients made calendars based on the bucket handle of the Big Dipper.
"The Big Dipper, the so-called' rotating jade scale, with Zheng'." The dragon horn holds the handle, the dragon fights in the south of Yin, and the pillow comes first. Use the handle of the fuzzy generator. The handle was built in the southwest of Huashan, and the balance was built in the middle of the night. It lies between the river and the economy in the middle of Yin Dynasty. The early builder was the chief, and the chief was the northeast of Haidai. The Big Dipper outside the right wall of Wei Zi is the hub of the sun, the moon, gold, wood, water, fire and earth, and also the source of the strength of Yin and Yang. The Book of History says: "Rebel against balance, with Zheng." The extension line of bucket handle is arcturus, the Dragon Horn of the Black Dragon in Dongyin Palace (note: the Horn Star is one of the 28 stars, guarding the four directions, and the Oriental Qinglong Seven Nights Horn Mujiao, Kang Jinlong, Nyctereute, Fangri Rabbit, Xinyue Fox, Tail Fire Tiger and Water Leopard; Seven Nights in South Suzaku: Muan Jing, Ghost Golden Sheep, Swertia liutu, Stellar Horse, Zhang Yuelu, Winged Fire Snake and Lumbricus; Seven Nights in the West White Tiger: Kuimu Wolf, Loujin Dog, Belly Pheasant, Shili Chicken, Bi Yue Harrier, Gunfire Monkey; Seven nights in North Xuanwu: unicorn, Taurus, mother bat, rising sun mouse, dangerous moon swallow, room fire, Swertia). After dusk, bucket handle refers to the position of the twelve earthly branches (Zi, Ugly, Yin, Mao, Chen, Si, Wu, Wei, Shen, You, Xu and Hai), which is the name of the month. The handle can also be divided (note: 1, identify the orientation: the space where the East, West, North and South and the Twelve Earthly Branches belong, and 2, determine the time sequence and intersection time). Bucket handle points to Huashan (You) and its southwest area, and the earth branch (azimuth) referred to by Midnight Yuheng is called midnight half-building (note: February is November of the lunar calendar), and Yuheng points to the area between Zhongzhou Yellow River and Jishui. Pingdan Doukui refers to the branch of the moon building that is flat, and the direction of the kui is Mao (East) Yin (Northeast). Dou, like a car rode by an emperor, runs in the center near the celestial pole (note: Dou is the emperor's car, which is transported in the center). According to the directions pointed by bucket handle at different times, four regions (note: Four townships are four directions, Oriental Chen; It's noon in the south; Xishen (ugly in the north), distinguish between day and night, determine the time sequence of spring, summer, autumn and winter throughout the year, and twelve o'clock every day (day and night): Zi, Ugly, Yin, Mao, Chen, Si, Wu, Wei, Shen, You, Xu and Hai. By using the natural law of the growth and decline of yin and yang and the twelve-letter hexagrams of the five elements (also known as twelve bi hexagrams and twelve Hou hexagrams), December and twenty-four solar terms are distinguished, thus further perfecting the calendar era. This method of making calendars mainly relies on the Big Dipper.
The above facts show that our ancestors have long known that the Big Dipper is the center of celestial bodies. By observing bucket handle's rotation, making calendars and establishing natural time series, it can be said that "observing the sky and doing everything possible". Dou refers to the "shooting stars" beside the corner of the Black Dragon Palace, which was created in the calendar for the purpose of "shooting stars".
