Appearance characteristics of American forest bison

American forest bison are 1.5-2.0m in height, 2. 1-3.5m in length and 350- 1000kg in weight. Compared with the named subspecies, the body is thicker and heavier, and the body hair is thicker and darker. The largest recorded variety weighs about 1 140kg. Its head and front half are huge, its shoulders are like towering humps, its neck is short, thick and strong, its head is big and its forehead is wide, and both male and female bison have short and curved horns, which can be used for fighting and defense. American forest bison look a bit like domestic cows, with long, fluffy coarse hair on the shoulders, covering the whole body along the head, neck, shoulders and forelimbs. The hair length in winter is dark brown, and the hair length in summer is lighter and lighter. In spring, the soft hair that grows on the back and lower part of the body will fall off.

The hair on the head, neck and front is longer and denser than that of European bison, with shorter body, smaller pelvis and less developed back. Generally speaking, American bison are thicker than European bison, and their bodies and limbs are not as long as European bison. They have a good sense of smell, but poor eyesight.
