When a boy is born at home, he will be called "Tianding". Why use this expression?

Why is a boy called "Tianding"?

Needless to say, the word "Tian" means increase.

As for the word "Ding", it was first seen in Oracle Bone Inscriptions.

The ancient document Shuo Wen Jie Zi records: "Everything in summer is solid and pictographic." It means that everything is flourishing in summer.

The T-shape here is its earliest original meaning, which means: strong. Later, with the derivative changes of the word, it was extended to strength and then to population.

This meaning is interpreted in Ci Hai as: Ding, the population is also.

Therefore, in this view, both boys and girls can be called "Tianding".

So, why are T-shoes always reserved for boys? There are several main reasons:

First, the original meaning of T-shape is strong and robust, but in the development and evolution of characters, T-shape refers to people who work, while those who work in the fields are generally strong and robust men, so T-shape has gradually become synonymous with adult men;

Second, wars have been going on since ancient times, and the army often needs to recruit soldiers to supplement its military supplies. Most of the men who can fight in the war are young and strong, so only men are often caught. Regarding this meaning, Han Yu, one of the eight masters in Tang and Song Dynasties, once wrote a poem: "I gave birth to a child last year with a better name, which means to make my country prosperous." The "Tianding" here is a boy, but it actually means adding a Rockett, which is the most authentic portrayal of ancient men.

Thirdly, with the diversified development of characters in the later period and the progress of society, it is impossible to address boys without addressing girls. Therefore, in order to distinguish between boys and girls, there are men and women, and there are also sayings that men are called Ding and women are called Kou, so there is a saying of "importing Ding".

In this way, Tianding became a boy, which lasted for a long time.

However, this is only the past, and the writing has developed to the present. Whether it is a boy or a girl, it can be called "Tianding" or collectively called "Tianding Import".
