The weasel is often regarded as Wong Tai Sin among the people and is demonized. Is it really so evil?

It's not that weird. Speaking of weasels, it is estimated that friends who grew up in the countryside have heard many legends about them. In the folk, the weasel is also called Wong Tai Sin, and together with the fox (fox fairy), hedgehog (white fairy), snake (willow fairy) and mouse (gray fairy), it becomes the folk "five immortals". In the past, there were some temples dedicated to Wong Tai Sin in the countryside. Although some weasels used to steal chickens from farmers' henhouses, when farmers saw it, most of them just drove it away, and few people hurt it.

There is a classic folk allegorical saying: weasel pays New Year greetings to chickens-uneasy and kind. In fact, this is a misunderstanding of the weasel. Although this animal sometimes steals chickens from farmers' henhouses, their main food is mice, snakes and some birds. Only when food is in short supply will some weasels venture into farmers' homes to steal chickens. This animal likes mice best. A weasel eats at least 1000 mice a year, with an average of two or three mice a day. It is a real "rat catcher".

Because there are many legends about weasels among the people, and this animal is small and flexible, and it will release the smell and escape when it is in danger, so few people really catch or hurt weasels in rural areas. However, it is undeniable that weasels are rarely seen in rural areas compared with previous years, and now weasels have been listed as vulnerable species by the National Union for Conservation of Nature, in other words, animals are now protected.

Overcapture is related to the older generation's awe of rural weasels, but some people still capture weasels for profit. The reason is that the weasel is full of treasures, and its fur and brushes suitable for making watercolors or oil paintings can also be made into fur coats. So weasels are decreasing.
