According to our current vision, whales can not be counted as a fish, but only as mammals living in the ocean. As for why whales that obviously look like fish and live in the ocean can't be counted as fish, let's briefly analyze the reasons.

First of all, to determine whether a whale is a fish, we must find out what our definition of fish is now. According to our current definition of fish, judging whether an organism is a fish mainly depends on whether it meets several conditions: simply speaking, it is a vertebrate, breathes through its gills, its fins can move with its swinging body and tail, and its body temperature will change when it eats with its upper and lower jaws. Knowing the definition of fish, we can compare whales according to their characteristics to see if they are a kind of fish.

Secondly, according to the whale's own characteristics, it breathes with lungs instead of gills, and even has no gills, so whales can't be counted as fish. We know that whales can use fins to control their movements with the swinging of their bodies and tails, and they can also use the bite of their jaws to eat. Moreover, the whale's body temperature will change with the change of the environment. It also has its own spine, similar to many fish. But unlike fish, whales breathe with their own lungs and have not evolved gills, so according to the definition of fish, whales cannot be counted as fish.

Finally, according to the characteristics of whales, we can only define them as mammals, but unlike mammals living on land, whales live in the ocean. According to our definition of mammals, whales are viviparous, their young need to breastfeed, and they are also warm-blooded animals, which completely conforms to our definition of mammals, so whales can only be classified as mammals. Just unlike our common mammals, whales live in water.
