Reporter: Recently, Cantonese crosstalk has become a hot topic because of your upcoming 50th anniversary performance and the media's concentrated reflection on Cantonese crosstalk "past lives".

Huang: People like our "art of laughter", which brings endless fun to Cantonese people. Ma Ji, a famous crosstalk performer, told people many times: "We come to Guangdong, but we can't beat them."

Reporter: What's the difference between Cantonese crosstalk and Mandarin crosstalk?

Huang: Their structures are the same, so there is no difference, but there are some differences in specific practices. In the early days when we started Cantonese crosstalk, we translated and transplanted Ma Ji's works, translated Mandarin into pure Cantonese, and then strung it into paragraphs, which achieved very good results. Now think about it, if there were no Cantonese crosstalk in the karaoke bars and no enthusiastic response from young audiences, there would be no series of actions to revitalize Cantonese crosstalk and there would be no Cantonese crosstalk today. Now even Cantonese crosstalk doesn't exist at all!

I dare not take the title of master.

Reporter: It can be said that the development of Cantonese crosstalk cannot be separated from you. A few years ago, some people said that Huang Junying was a master of languages. Huang: I can't accept such a high title as "Master" because I'm far from the audience's requirements. I only have a junior high school education. Although I have been in close contact with the language for more than 50 years, I really haven't thought about the influence of my works on the development of Cantonese.

I told people I didn't want anything. As long as the audience still likes me, I will fight for the art of cross talk until the last moment, and I will never "seal my throat". Now everyone has given me such a high evaluation, which reminds me of the eulogy. Eulogy is written for the dead, but the best eulogy is nonsense for the dead because they can't hear it. Reporter: You really let us appreciate the magical charm of Cantonese and enjoy the fun of Cantonese expression again. Now some people are worried that the promotion of Putonghua will bring market shrinkage and audience loss to Cantonese crosstalk.

Huang: Nowadays, many people often criticize Cantonese and Guangzhou people for clinging to the local dialect?

Will the promotion of Putonghua cause market shrinkage and audience loss to Cantonese crosstalk? I don't think so. Cantonese crosstalk, like Cantonese opera, embodies a strong Lingnan style, and Cantonese has a deep foundation in many countries and regions around the world. At present, there are more and more migrants in Guangdong, but Cantonese crosstalk has been very popular, and even foreigners like Cantonese crosstalk. I think people who want Cantonese crosstalk to die out are just like those who put forward pinyin instead of Chinese characters.

The lack of successors is the most worrying thing.

Reporter: What is the biggest difficulty in developing Cantonese crosstalk?

Huang: The lack of successors in Cantonese crosstalk is the biggest knot I still can't solve. I am 67 years old. How long can I stay on the stage? Now many people say that watching our group's performance is for Huang Junying. Last year, I had kidney calculi. I went to the hospital for surgery and rested for two months. In the past two months, our cross talk troupe has not given a performance. Other actors can't top my role, and the agent should consider the box office. Therefore, I think this is an increasingly serious problem. I hope someone can take over, even if it starts with imitating me, but now no one can imitate me, and I'm worried. I hope that the cultural authorities can pay attention to it and give economic and policy support. Our Guangzhou Cantonese Crosstalk Art Club and Guangzhou Cantonese Crosstalk Fans Association have been dissolved due to economic reasons, and there are fewer ways to find talents through mass activities and non-governmental organizations!

Cantonese crosstalk has a mass base and a broad market. Everywhere we go, the box office is very popular. Since its establishment 20 years ago, Guangdong Crosstalk Troupe has been performing publicly in the Pearl River Delta. As an art troupe, it has persisted for 20 years and is unique in the province. Why? We are a unique professional Cantonese crosstalk group in the province. Other Cantonese crosstalk groups are amateurs, in the state of Sanda, and there are no professional and representative actors.

I used to be very happy about this, but now I am very worried! Only when there is competition can progress be made, which shows the lack of talents. Wouldn't it be better if there were more groups and everyone promoted each other?

Reporter: What are your criteria for accepting apprentices?

Huang: It mainly depends on its reaction. What I need are students who are quick-thinking, mischievous and literate. Nowadays, Cantonese crosstalk performers should be "all-rounders", who can write, compose, direct and act. Besides, we should work hard and be diligent. After graduating from junior high school, I grew up and dabbled in a wide range. In our time, I was totally on my own. I envy and hate the younger generation at present. I envy them a good educational environment. I hate that they don't cherish the good environment, don't concentrate on their studies, fall in love prematurely, pursue fame and fortune and look at money everywhere.

Reporter: Many of your Cantonese crosstalk works have become classics. Everyone is particularly familiar with the image of "Guangdong little man" you created on the stage. Everyone wants to know the husband image in your life. Huang: My wife and I love each other, understand each other, help each other and care about each other. She is a very cultured person, and all her friends have a good impression on her. She never peeks at my cell phone information, eavesdrops on my phone or steals my letters. I also respect her. I'll give it all to her when I get my salary and bonus. I am satisfied that she supports me in art and cares about me in life.

It is not easy for me to combine with her. At that time, you had to report to the organization when you were in love. She is beautiful, and many people who are better than me pursue her, but she is unmoved and takes the initiative to pursue me, who is not very beautiful and has a lower salary status than her. I am very grateful to her.

Reporter: Huang Junying on the stage has brought endless joy to everyone. What about Huang Junying in life?

Huang: My friends especially like to invite me to the teahouse for tea and dinner, because they have one purpose: I will adjust the atmosphere and have some laughter.

I like to study dialects around Guangdong, so I can learn them properly. So I have many "fellow villagers", as can be seen from the "local accent". Of course, I felt particularly cordial as soon as we met.
