Excerpt from a collection of classic Zen sayings by Master Baizhang.

Baizhang Huaihai Zen Master is an important figure in the history of Zen in China and a monk of Zen in Tang Dynasty. Originally from Taiyuan, the distant ancestor of Emperor Huai of the Western Jin Dynasty moved to Fuzhou due to the war, and his common surname was Wang. He is a descendant of Mazu Yi Dao, the pioneer of Hongzhou Sect, and the maker of Zen jungle law. Because he lived in Baizhang Mountain in Hongzhou (Fengxin, Jiangxi) all his life, he was called Baizhang Zen Master by the world.

After the middle Tang Dynasty, due to the sharp contradiction between the old religious discipline and the development of Zen, Huaihai boldly reformed the religious discipline and established Baizhang Puritanism. Clearing the obstacles for the development of Zen has an indelible and significant contribution to the development of Zen. It is another great Buddhist virtue after Master Huineng.

Baizhang Zen master's classic Zen language:

1, good and evil. Never used it. I don't love a method either. Don't give up a method. Not all good and evil are called Mahayana. Empty and dirty. Doing nothing. Outside the world. Ford's wisdom is bound by it. It's called Fohui. Right and wrong are ugly. Right or wrong. All knowledge and feelings are exhausted. Can't be tied. Peace of mind everywhere. It's called becoming a monk. Then climb the Buddha's land.

2, my husband learns Taoism. In case of all kinds of joys and sorrows, it will be meaningless. There is no retreat in my heart. I don't care about all the fame and fortune. Not greedy for all merits and interests. Not hindered by the laws of the world. No family, no love. Bitter and bittersweet Thick clothes keep out the cold. Eat and live. Honest as a fool. Deaf and dumb. There is a slight corresponding score.

3. Buddha wants nothing. People ask truth and be good. Reason is nothing. What you seek is what you lose. If you don't want anything. Similarly, I want something. If you do nothing. Complex and promising.

4. Don't ask for Buddha. No law. Don't ask the monk. Even if you don't seek happiness, wisdom and understanding. Dirt and innocence are exhausted. I don't keep it. I don't want to be right. I don't live anywhere. Heaven is not afraid of hell. Tie it up. No problem. That is, mind, body and everything are free.

5, the mind is not dyed. This is self-fulfilling. But from a false fate. That is, like Buddha.

6. There is nothing to argue about. The heart does nothing. Empty mind. A bright day comes from itself.

7, dirty and clean. Don't move five desires and eight winds. Not worshipped by knowledge. Not confused by the law. Nature has all the advantages. Have all the magical powers.

8. All laws. Ben doesn't defend himself. Empty words speak for themselves. Don't say anything Right and wrong. No intention of tying people up. But people are born with vanity. Develop several solutions.

9. Fu Xuedao. If in my heart. Extensive study and understanding. Seek happiness and wisdom. Everything is life and death. Good for reason.

10, Buddha is nothing. People ask truth and be good. Reason is nothing. What you seek is what you lose. If you don't want anything. Similarly, I want something. If you do nothing. Complex and promising.

The classic Zen language of Zen master Bo Huang

1, all buddhas and sentient beings are single-minded, and there is no other way.

Only this heart is the Buddha, and the Buddha is no different from all beings.

3. This heart is Buddha, and Buddha is all beings. This heart is undiminished for all beings and for all buddhas.

4, this heart is Buddha, there is no other Buddha, and there is no other heart.

5, this heart is clear and pure, just like vanity without any appearance, lifting the heart as the body of the law, that is, the phase.

6. Buddha is United with all beings, as if nothing is mixed up, such as the big sun shining for four days. When the sun rises, the world is clear and the void is unclear; At the end of the day, the whole world is black, and the void is not black. The realm of light and shade is self-defeating, and the emptiness remains unchanged.

7. I don't understand this idea. Convenient for the mind. Pray for Buddha. Practice with photos. They are all evil laws. Non-bodhi road.

8. support ten buddhas. It is better to support a heartless person.

9. Today's scholars. Don't realize it yourself. Is to take the situation outside the heart. Both are contrary to Tao.

10, this method is the heart. Can't be selfish. This heart is Dharma. Extra-legal unintentional. The heart is unintentional. There is no careless person. Careless.

1 1. This law is unintentional at present.

12, I am afraid of it. That is, out of the way. I am fascinated by each other. Thinking about doing nothing. It's Buddha.

13, if a Taoist wants to become a Buddha. You don't have to learn all Buddhism. Learning is nothing. If you don't ask for it, you will have it. Nothing means that the heart will never die. Eternal life is Buddha.

14, ordinary people take the site. The Taoist priest summoned up his courage. Double forgetting is the real way. It's easy to forget the situation at that time. It's hard to forget your heart. People dare not forget their initial heart. I am afraid that I will fail. I wonder if it's empty. The only real Damore.

15, for greed and ignorance. That is, stand on your post and be smart. No trouble. There is no bodhi.

16, fools don't mind anything but things. A wise man will not remove anything except his heart.

Related information phellodendron amurense (? -855), alias Huang Berry and Huang Berry, known as Master Huang Berry, was a Mahayana Buddhist monk in Jiu Feng, Jingzhou (now Huang Baishan, Yifeng County, Jiangxi Province) in the Tang Dynasty.

During the Huichang period in Tang Wuzong, Prime Minister Pei Xiu recorded the quotations of Zen master Huang Berry twice in Zhong Ling County (now Zhong Ling Township, Jinxian County, Jiangxi Province), which were included in Zhong Lingqing (Zhong Ling Record) and Wan Lingqing (Wan Lingqing Record) respectively. Later generations adapted it as "heart-to-heart method"

Excerpts from the classic Zen language 100 of Master Long Botian.

Master Long Botong was born in the northeast of Thailand on May 1939. According to the custom in Southern Buddhism, he became a monk at the age of 22. In the next seven years, he studied and learned the Buddhist teachings of Shangtai.

Longbotong Zen master's classic Zen language;

1. The teachings of the Buddha and the virtues of the disciples of the Buddha's arhat are the fruits and goals inspired and pursued by our family. May you see a clean, bright and peaceful heart in this life.

2. Doing merits, giving alms, observing precepts and practicing meditation are all in the world. These things existed before and after the birth of the Buddha.

As for stopping Zen, it is a kind of spiritual strength and a kind of desire.

4. It is impossible to eliminate the distress by stopping meditation.

5. When we practice Buddhism, we must practice it in our hearts, not ourselves.

6. Meditation is just a way to calm the mind, but it is still a calm with ignorance. Just like a big stone pressing the grass, the stone pressed on the grass can't grow, but once the stone is removed, the grass will grow as before, even more lush than before.

7. Body view: Based on the meditation of "body or body", I see that the body is just a body, not real, not entity, not self, it is neither me nor it.

8. Perception: Meditate on the basis of "perception" and truthfully see that these perceptions are only perceptions, not real, not material, not self-centered, and not self-centered.

9. Mind concept: practice meditation based on "mind", and truly see that the heart is just a heart, not a real thing, not an entity, not a self, it is neither me nor it.

10, the concept of law: practice meditation on the basis of law, and truly see that these laws are only laws, not reality, not entities, not self, they are neither me nor it.

1 1. The Buddha learned as much knowledge and wisdom as the leaves in the forest, but he taught us as little as the leaves in his hand.

12, the leaves in the forest refer to doing merits, giving alms, keeping precepts and meditation, and the leaves in the hands refer to meditation (Vipassana meditation).

13, mindfulness: remember without losing *, that is, consciously know anything before doing or thinking about it.

14. Right knowledge: that is, when we think about something, we have a complete understanding of it.

15, mindfulness-mindfulness, in layman's terms, means staying awake, awake and aware of yourself at any time.

16, all religions teach the same thing: practice body and mind, stop evil and do good.

17, whatever you are thinking, follow what comes from your heart, understand it and see it.

18, no matter what you are doing, you should keep looking at your own mentality. No matter what you are doing, such as reading, writing, digging a hole, mowing the grass or taking a bath, always look at your heart.

19, change and birth and death are what the Buddha called impermanence, bitterness and selflessness. Therefore, don't take the emotion to hiss, following the emotion will only cause distress.

20. Every kind of practice: doing merits, giving alms, observing precepts, stopping meditation, observing meditation, etc. These are the ways to eliminate troubles, that is, greed and ignorance.

2 1, in fact, our hearts are not bitter, or the original appearance, no change, no difference.

Silence means that the mind can work freely and conscientiously. This kind of heart in the middle can be compared to a weight, an anchor, or the brake of a car. It can always keep our thoughts in a balanced state, and will not let our hearts flow with happy and unhappy feelings. This kind of mind transcends bitterness and happiness, and will not be obsessed with good and evil. It is called the golden mean or nirvana.

We can't rely on anyone else to help our hearts achieve this primitive peace and tranquility.

24. Cultivating awareness is a way to make your heart quiet.

25, the center is like a weight, which can make us balance without being too angry or greedy, which can easily destroy a person.

26. Because ignorance breeds greed and evil, the Buddha emphasized that we must have awareness, determination and wisdom.

27. Most teachers tend to teach people to close their eyes and meditate in order to calm their hearts, but in fact, the Buddha wants us to make up our minds to go to work on time and normally on weekdays and face up to our responsibility to teach meditation.

28. The main teaching of the Buddha is to emphasize awareness and wisdom. As for "determination", it goes without saying, especially the determination taught by ordinary teachers.

The real determination is to strengthen our hearts and work resolutely.

30. The so-called "Dharma" is yourself (not external things other than yourself)!

3 1. Seeing your own actions, words and thoughts (that is, the actions of body, mouth and heart) is called "seeing me".

The Buddha taught that when you see an idea or when you are thinking, put it down and "look with awareness". This is called wisdom.

33. The reason why we want to see our hearts is to see (understand) that our hearts are sometimes captured by thoughts (that is, our hearts are trapped by thoughts). Once involved in thought, it will continue to proliferate.

34. Seeing the law is not seeing the Buddha and seeing the light and other external things, but seeing me and seeing me. See me not by your appearance, but by your actions, words and thoughts.

35. The Buddha taught us to know how to eliminate "distress" and "the source of distress", that is, to eliminate the cause of pain.

36. People who can't get rid of suffering are no different from ordinary people who are afraid of death. On the contrary, if someone can get rid of suffering, the Buddha said that such a person can be called a supernatural person (that is, a saint in the world).

37. The so-called "transcending the world" does not mean ascending to heaven, going to heaven or similar places, but transcending emotional feelings and various hardships.

38. Being born or transcending emotional feelings does not mean that you will stay away from the world and ignore people. Although we are no longer influenced by other people's words and go beyond our emotional feelings, we can still listen to others, no matter what they say is right or wrong.

39. The Buddha taught all people to work hard, then be poor and patient, rich and humble.

40. The Buddha taught us from all aspects, but he also taught us to avoid evil ways and laws, because evil ways and laws are the beginning of degeneration and destruction.

4 1, because we don't know this subtle worry, we regard suffering as happiness, which is actually a little darkness in white light, or it will arise unconsciously in an instant.

42. Buddhism is to persuade people to be kind, sad, happy and give up.

When we perform our responsibilities correctly, the results will naturally follow. Never ask for anything, and don't expect anything.

44. When we work hard according to our responsibilities, we are people who study honestly, respect the rules and respect ourselves.

45. The Buddha taught us: "Doing good is good, and doing evil is evil. 」

When everyone can do his part, the work will be completely successful and progress will be made in any aspect.

47. The first cause of karma is the firm determination to do good deeds wholeheartedly, that is, to be kind and generous, to make good use of knowledge and mind, and to do things with a Buddhist heart.

48. Honesty refers to whiteness, purity and brightness, which can bring us peace, that is, a kind of spiritual brightness.

49. If we have a dirty heart and are stained with stains, then our heart is corrupt and stinky.

50. The real result or merit in our hearts is purity, brightness and peace of mind.

5 1. We have all studied Buddhism to a certain extent, and we should all attach great importance to Buddhism, but in fact, on the contrary, we don't really attach importance to the teachings of the Buddha, because we all tend to attach importance to external things and talk about Buddhism from the outside.

52. If we really attach importance to the teachings of the Buddha, even if we have only a few people, we will certainly be able to improve the world, because these few people can understand Buddhism from the heart.

53. The first step to improve the world or understand Buddhism from the heart is that everyone should study hard and practice their responsibilities.

When we have confidence in ourselves, we can gently warn others bit by bit, because if we don't warn others, they will become corrupt and smelly, and they will become harmful factors to the public in an improper way.

55. The teachings of the Buddha play an important role in society. It protects this society from corruption and stench.

When we become bitter killers, no matter where we go, there will be no pain. However, if we are all suffering, how can we help others instead of adding to their suffering?

57. Our responsibility is related to the suffering patients, so what we must remember is to have a loving heart and understand the true nature of the world and life.

If we keep meditating like this, our hearts will become clean and soft. This is a beautiful poem about happiness, development and prosperity in personal life and working and living together in human society.

59. When we think about our own sufferings and how we experienced them, we must understand the sufferings of others and know how to treat them, that is, we are in the same boat, and we can see the truth in adversity.

60. Heaven is in the heart, hell is in the heart, and nirvana is the same.

6 1, anger is the devil, and the ghost is here (in my heart, not outside)! Angry people are called ghosts, and their faces are like ghosts. But in fact, the heart does not exist, but we just don't understand it.

62. If we see colors, light and ghosts during meditation, it means that we are doing something wrong.

63. The Buddha taught that seeing the Dharma means seeing the Buddha, and seeing the Dharma means seeing the Buddha.

64. Even if a person has vestments or refers to Buddhist relics, he cannot be said to have seen Dharma and Buddha. This is a truth that must be well understood.

65. The so-called Zen phase refers to the mind or the appearance of the heart, or what the heart perceives.

66. Be aware of it and feel it with your consciousness, just as you feel it when you raise your hand. This is Zen. When an idea arises, it is called Zen when you know it.

67. When there is distress in our hearts, we will not seize it; When we pursue inner happiness, we will know that this is not the right thinking. Today's happiness is tomorrow's pain.

68. The Buddha refers to a pure, bright, quiet and peaceful heart.

69. cleanliness refers to a normal mind that is not polluted; Light refers to knowing and seeing your inner feelings and thoughts; Peace and serenity means that there is no greed and delusion in your heart.

70. The concept of greed is "bitterness"! Therefore, the Buddha only taught the origin of "suffering", the origin of "suffering" and the cessation of "suffering".

7 1, the so-called meditation is to see our own thoughts, not light, color, or ghosts and gods.

Nirvana can be translated as silence and tranquility. When our heart returns to its normal state, it is quiet and serene, which is called nirvana.

73. Ordinary and quiet peace are the same. The Buddha taught that there is no higher joy than tranquility.

74. The quietness in the cave is that some people sit still and sit like stones for the sake of quietness, unable to see their own hearts and thoughts.

75. Peace and serenity with awareness and wisdom. Because there is no greed and delusion, they can know and see their hearts, and they can perceive their body, language and meaning.

76. Nirvana is the cessation of troubles and a normal heart.

77. Abstinence is a tool to get rid of heavy troubles, and it must be a tool to get rid of medium troubles, and wisdom is a tool to get rid of subtle troubles.

78. In practice, focusing on worry refers to greed, jealousy, infatuation, promiscuity, love, greed and making a will.

79. Moderate annoyance means that our hearts are trapped by the environment and can't see clearly. This knowledge, with ignorance and stupidity, is called ignorance or silence.

80. Slight worry refers to clinging to the smallest wisdom in his heart, that is to say, he has wisdom, can know the origin of thoughts, and can also know and see the state of life and death, but because of persistence, it is still a glimmer of darkness in the white light, which is already subtle, but it is still not normal.

8 1, people can hit you and hurt you, but ghosts can't. If they are really so capable, they should be able to build their own houses and find their own food, but they can't. On the contrary, people build shrines for ghosts and gods and give them food to eat. People are guarding them.

82. Our hearts like to grasp some illusory things.

We are human beings with superior mental abilities, so we don't need to be afraid of ghosts or anything else. You don't need to seek asylum everywhere, because you are your own asylum.

If you want to be rich, you must know how to do business, make profits and be polite to your guests.

85. If your speech is unpleasant, even if you sell it cheaply, no customers will come to your door.

86. If a person wants to do a good job in business, he must make good words, make a brand, write a few big characters and hang them up for everyone to see clearly, which will be effective.

87. The flowers in the Buddha ceremony represent smiles and happiness, because the fragrance of flowers means that we are not angry and don't have long faces, so our faces will be as beautiful as flowers.

88. Sanzhuxiang means saying good things, doing good deeds and being kind.

89. Two candles represent eyes and ears, meaning what is good to see or hear? What is a bad thing? Without being deceived by the outside world.

90. The Buddha statue is a traditional world custom, which means saying good things, doing good deeds, being kind to others, being peaceful and happy.

9 1. Most Buddhists just believe in and follow the tradition, but they don't know anything about Buddhism.

92. A discerning person is not the naked eye, but the eye, which can show wisdom and eliminate foolish troubles.

People always don't know the truth. They are fragile inside, unable to get shelter from themselves, and can only rely on external ghosts and gods.

94. I take care of myself, and one can't rely on the protection of others.

95. The sage is outstanding because he practices skillfully and honestly. In order to get rid of all kinds of hardships, he practices beyond all kinds of hardships. This is the so-called saint or Buddha.

96. Your holy disciple is an honest walker, that is, he practices honestly, does not lie, does not testify, does not deceive himself, his friends or his parents, and practices honestly according to his responsibilities and work.

97. The holy disciple of the Buddha is a doer, that is, practicing to get rid of all suffering.

99. The disciples of Buddha are four pairs or eight generations of saints. This saint can be a man or a woman.

100, the holy disciples of Buddha, they know suffering and can get rid of it.

Excerpts from Buddhist words spoken by Zen master Hongren, the fifth ancestor.

1, the noumenon of Fu Xiu must be recognized; The heart is pure, and there is no difference between being born and not being born. The self is perfect and the heart is pure. This is our teacher, even better than the ten buddhas.

2. People who are interested in understanding the true Sect through enlightenment and cultivating their minds will talk about it. If it doesn't protect the net, everything will be taken away for no reason; I hope that learned and good writers will not make mistakes with their hearts, lest they miss future generations.

3, wearing clouds in ten places: all sentient beings have Buddha nature, just like sun gear, with a perfect body and boundless vastness; It is only covered by dark clouds of five shades, like the light in a bottle, which cannot shine.

4. Like a cloud in the world, it rises in all directions and the world is dark.

5. The sun is rotten, why is there no light? Light element is not bad, only covered by clouds; The same is true of the pure heart of all beings.

6. I only worry about climbing and thinking about it. It is covered by dark clouds, but I can keep my heart calm and think about it, and the nirvana-like method naturally appears. An old friend knows his own heart, but he is clean.

7. Vimalakīrti Classic: For example, there is no life; Like nothing.

8. If it is, it is as real as Buddha's self-purification.

9, clean, the heart is also.

10, as it is, it is not fate.

1 1, all beings are like this, so are saints, and all beings are like us.

12, sages, that is, buddhas. Although the name is different, the principle in the body is like the law, and it is immortal.

13, so the words are all the same, so we know that the self-mind is immortal.

14, naturally, it is not a repair unless it is from the outside.

15, in the third world, all close relatives are self-controlled.

16, knowing each other and keeping your heart will reach the other shore.

17, lost three coats if lost, lost three coats if abandoned.

18, it is known that the third Buddha is self-centered. Therefore, as the saying goes, knowing is life, and knowing is not life, so knowing is a teacher.

19, I often miss the Buddha and can't help but live and die; Hold my heart and you will reach the other shore.

20. As the saying goes, keeping the truth is better than thinking about other buddhas. There is another cloud: the winner is just an exhortation, but the fruit is equal.

2 1, ten buddhas, realize the dharma, and follow the heart naturally; Delusion is not born, mindfulness is not extinguished, and the heart is destroyed, so it is not subject to life and death.

22, deathless, that is silence after all. An old friend knows that Wan Le is back.

23. All sentient beings are obsessed with the truth, ignorant in their hearts, all kinds of false fates, and do not correct their own thoughts, so they hate love.

24, to hate love, then the heart is broken; If the heart leaks, there is life and death; If there are reasons for birth, illness and death, then all the sufferings will appear.

25, really like Buddha, I don't know; Six senses in the sea, sinking into life and death, can not be freed. I will be sincere if I work hard, and I will not be born in vain. What my heart wants will be destroyed, and nature is equal to Buddha.

26. Since then, I have been on the road. I am incredible and extraordinary; Be intimate and clear, lose sex and be fascinated; Fate is close and uncertain; But believe in the truth and stick to your heart.

27. There is no self-nature, no other nature, no law, and no extinction today.

28. This realization comes from two sides, and there is no difference in wisdom.

29. to understand this meaning, we must know the law and keep our original heart first.

30. This protector is the nirvana-like foundation, the key to enlightenment, the sect of the Twelve Classics, and the founder of the Three Buddhas.

3 1, Nirvana-like, silent, doing nothing and having fun; I am sincere and stupid; To break reason, there is mindfulness; Mindfulness has its own reasons, it is silent and intelligent; Silent according to wisdom, poor according to law; Poverty leads to nirvana.

32. Knowing the truth and keeping it is the root of nirvana.

33. Even those who hold claws, draw Buddha statues, or make constant sand merits; It's just that the Buddha wants to teach those unintelligent beings, and when they come, they want to be rewarded and see the Buddha.

34. If you wish to become a Buddha at an early date, you must be sincere.

35. The three buddhas are boundless. If a person does not keep the truth and become a Buddha, then there is nothing.

36, a heart, doing nothing.

37. It is also the key to knowing the truth.

38. In the scriptures, the Tathagata said that all sins and blessings, all karma; Or introduce all the mountains, rivers, plants and other things, and make endless metaphors; Or infinite magical power and various changes; It's just that the Buddha has all kinds of desires and behaviors to teach all beings, but he has no wisdom.

39, so the Tathagata introduced a mind multiplication. I know the Buddha nature of all beings. I was originally pure, and I saw a cloud in my head every day. But I know how to keep my true heart and think about the clouds, and a bright day will come: why learn more and see more? What is life and death like?

40. Everything that is just three things, such as grinding a mirror, is natural.

4 1. If you can learn clearly without losing mindfulness and doing nothing, this is real learning.

42. Although the law is empty, you must know its truth; Thinking about it is not life, but heart destruction.

43. All Buddhas III were born of mind.

44. First, if you keep your heart, you won't be born. If the mind is destroyed, it will become a Buddha.

45. Being sincere is the founder of the Three Buddhas.

46. Everything should be mindful of your own heart. Don't be happy now, plant suffering in the future, blame yourself on him, and don't take off life and death.

47. If the source of this heart is self-evident, everything will be enriched, everything will be done, and it will not be affected by the future.

48. Be sure to take clean photos, and don't make them unforgettable.

49. All people are indifferent to the outside world, and they are sincere; When your heart is not clean, you will always punish your heart when you walk, live, sit and lie down, but you will not be clean. This is a name that you have no memory of.

However, its significance, guiding fans and interesting solutions to avoid life and death can measure people. Frankly speaking, self-interest is not good for him. Make an appointment. If someone follows the scriptures, he will become a Buddha. If I scold you, I will fall into eighteen layers of hell, I swear to God. If you don't believe me, I will be eaten by tigers and wolves for life.
