History of gan dialect research

There have been many outstanding phonologists in Jiangxi history, such as Chen Pengnian of Cheng Nan, Zhou Deqing of Gao 'an, Zhang Zilie of Yichun, and Zhang Wei of Wen Qi Ji, the author of The Rhyme of the Central Plains, but few Jiangxi people have systematically written articles about local accent.

Since modern times, the study of Gan dialect has gradually arisen, and the Summary of Distinguishing Characters written during the Qianlong period reflects the phonetic system of Linjiang dialect of Gan dialect two and a half centuries ago. Zhang Linzhi recorded in Notes on the Rhyme Mirror: "It used to be called good fortune", and Zhuzi School 140 also mentioned: "Hongzhou has rhyme, and Taiping also has rhyme books." In addition, local dialects will be recorded and described in the local chronicles of counties that use Gan dialect.

The phonology of Linchuan written by Luo Changpei (1940) is the earliest modern monograph on the study of Gan dialect. Gao Anren's Four National Phonetics is more than ten years earlier than Roche's Linchuan Phonology. The fourth chapter is the correction method of local phonology, which completely summarizes the phonological system of Gao 'an dialect, and summarizes the differences between Gao 'an dialect and Putonghua from four aspects: the change of initials and finals, the change of initials and finals, and the change of flat tone.
