Magnolia played by Chingmy Yau is the TV series The Secret Life of Cixi. The Secret Life of Cixi is a feature film produced by Jing Wong Workshop Co., Ltd., directed by Liu Weiqiang and starring Chingmy Yau, Tony Leung Ka Fai, Yu Rongguang, Zhou Jialing and Ewenki. The film was released in Hongkong, China on March 1997.

The film tells the story of Hui Yulan, who was born in a noble family in Yenala and was chosen as a female teacher by grace. Aunt gave her a visa, but the fortune teller divined. The woman was hit and committed a crime, which will do great harm to her husband, family and country in the future. Yulan was bullied by other favored nobles, but at first she couldn't get the favor of Emperor Xianfeng because of her surname, so she was disheartened.
