Did Li Zicheng ever become a monk?

Li Zicheng escaped from Zen Buddhism and was caught on a mountain in Shimen. Shimen County, Hunan Province was called Liyang in ancient times, also known as Lizhou. According to the article Biography of He Lin Li Zicheng, the magistrate of Lizhou, collected in Zhi Lin, Lizhou during the reign of Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty, Li Zicheng was defeated in the battle and fled to Shimen Mountain as a monk, with his legal name Feng Tianyu. Jiashan referred to in this paper is Jiashan Temple, which is located in Sanbanqiao, east of Shimen County 15km. It is an ancient temple in the Tang Dynasty, which is the place mentioned at the beginning of this article. There are some inscriptions, poems and fragments related to this theory, as well as bone fragments of Feng Tianyu, a monk, and many relics including court jade, including many cultural relics found in 1980 archaeological excavation. These undoubtedly constitute strong evidence of this statement.

He Lin's statement is also the earliest record of becoming a monk. It is said that He Lin once went to Jiashan and met a 70-year-old monk who had served in Feng Tianyu and had a Shaanxi accent. He told He Lin that in the early years of Shunzhi, Feng Tianyu came to the temple and took out his portrait. It is said that the people in the painting are very similar to Li Zicheng in history books. According to Li Zicheng, who claimed to be "the Grand Marshal of Fengtian Chongyi" and later called "the King of Xinshun", it is taboo to conclude that "Fengtian Jade" is more than "Fengtian Heavenly King". The ashes found in the tomb of Jade Monk in Fengtian, the brick inscription "Taming", and the inscription and related cultural relics written by his disciple Ye Fu in the tomb are all confirmed by Lin's article. People who hold this view believe that "Ye Fu" is Lee Guo, and Lee Guo is Li Zicheng's nephew Li Jin, which proves that the Fengtian Jade Monk served by Ye Fu is Li Zicheng. In Jiashan Temple, there are also records of Feng Tianyu's rebuilding of Jiashan Lingquan Temple's merit tablet (Kangxi tablet) and Jiashan Lingquan Temple's merit tablet (Daoguang tablet), Zhina's writings, Yongmei's remnants and Ye Fu's tablets, tombstones, tokens, Linjiang cultural relics handed down from Linli, and six "Yongchang Bao Tong" copper coins. Like imperial edicts, imperial edicts can only be used by kings, but not by ordinary people. All this seems to further confirm the fact that monk Feng Tian Yu is Li Zicheng himself.

Another basis for holding this view comes from strategic reasoning. It is believed that Li Zicheng became a monk because of the situation, but also to unite with the Ming Dynasty and resist the Qing Dynasty. At that time, the main enemy of Dashun Army led by Li Zicheng was not the forces of Ming Dynasty, but the aggressive Qing army. Anti-Qing has become a top priority. Other armed forces of the United Nations will also play an important role. At that time, only Hunan He Tengjiao, under the leadership of Tang Wang Zhu, could unite against the Qing Dynasty. However, scholars who oppose the theory of "getting rid of Zen" think that this theory can't stand scrutiny: although Feng Tianyu is a real monk, according to Taming's records, Feng Tianyu has lived through the Qing Dynasty. What is the essence? The second volume of "Ruler's and Ruler's Category" said: "The post station is slow and clear, and the tight position is heavy. Both of them know it. " Li Zicheng has nothing to do with the Qing Dynasty and the Qing Dynasty. Liu Xuan, the author of Daming, is a adherent of the Ming Dynasty. He was loyal to the Ming Dynasty. How can he write for the peasant leader Li Zicheng? This is incomprehensible. Moreover, on the tombstone of Ye Fu, Cili County, Hunan Province, which was newly discovered in the winter of 1982, "I hate the castration of power for a long time ... and I still pursue Koulin to restore the Central Plains", which also shows that Ye Fu is an Amin military attache who hates eunuchs. Ye Fu's cautious attitude towards the affairs of monks in Feng Tianyu also shows their close relationship, and at the same time shows that Feng Tianyu may also be a legacy of the Ming Dynasty. According to records, Feng Tianyu was a wandering monk who traveled from Sichuan to Jiashan Temple in Shimen County during the Shunzhi period. When he first arrived in Jiashan, he saw that the ancient temple was in ruins, so he made public appearances and begged for support from many parties to repair the temple. If it turned out to be a secluded Zen, how could it be so publicity and not know how to keep secrets!

In fact, in late April, the main force of Dashun Army marched to a place not far from Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province, and was once again caught up by the Qing army. Twenty-eight riders were empty." When the thieves heard about it, they gathered around the camp in tears. While I caressed Liu Tiren and Hao waving flags in Xiangyin, Yuan Zong's younger brother and Lin grew up in Changsha, and Niu dared to build a new wall, all with one voice.
