3 genxiang

Three incense is the standard way for Buddhists to burn incense, which represents conversion to the Three Treasures, sincere practice, breaking away from reincarnation and surviving in the West. Taoism also has three fragrances, which represent the Sanqing or the three laws of heaven, earth and man.

4 genxiang

Four sticks of incense are usually given by disciples who practice at home or girls who go out. There are four pillars for laymen who practice at home.
