Realgar can ward off evil spirits. Realgar, α-As4S4, also known as stone yellow, stone and cockscomb, is a kind of ore containing sulfur and arsenic. Soft and brittle, usually granular and dense, or powdery, with light orange stripes. Realgar is mainly produced in low-temperature hydrothermal deposits and often coexists with orpiment (As2S3), stibnite and cinnabar. Realgar is produced in hot spring sediments and sulfur-containing craters and often coexists with orpiment. Insoluble in water and hydrochloric acid, soluble in nitric acid, the solution is yellow. Exposure to the sun will turn it into orpiment and arsenic, so it should be stored away from light to avoid weathering.
