According to the provisions of Article 18 of the Regulations on Household Registration in People's Republic of China (PRC) and Article 9 of the Preliminary Opinions of the Third Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security on the Implementation of the Regulations on Household Registration, citizens applying for changing their names shall be handled in accordance with the following provisions:

(1) If a citizen's name is wrong due to a mistake in the work of the household registration department, the police station that caused the mistake will issue a certificate, which will be corrected after the approval of the director of the police station in the current household registration area.

(2) If a citizen under the age of 18 asks to change his/her name, his/her guardian will write a written application, and the school will issue a certificate to the students, and the change will be given after the approval of the director of the police station. Older adoptees or claimants need his consent.

(3) Citizens who have reached the age of 18 apply to change their names, and they need to fill in the application form for change of resident status. After being examined and signed by the personnel department of the unit, it must be approved by the household registration office of the county and city public security bureau. If a minor citizen applies for changing his name, it shall be examined and approved by the unit where one of his parents works. If the parents have no work unit, they shall be examined and approved by the neighborhood committee.
