Legends and anecdotes of Jiming Temple;
A long time ago, there was a legend that a very powerful centipede essence lurked on Jiuhua Mountain near Xuanwu Lake in Nanjing, which could spray dozens of toxic flames and often poisoned pedestrians and livestock, causing great harm. Later, when the Jade Emperor in heaven knew about this incident, he sent the golden rooster that announced the dawn in the Heavenly Palace to the world and used it to deal with centipedes.
After the Golden Rooster was ordered to go to the mortal world, he saw centipede essence standing on Jiuhua Mountain and spraying poisonous flame to hurt people. The golden rooster stood on the top of the Arctic Pavilion and crowed at the centipede. The centipede essence was also frightened by the deafening crow, and the poisonous flame was scattered. The scattered people came to their senses and saw a golden rooster standing tall in the glow of the Arctic Pavilion.
It is speculated that the crow of this golden rooster drove away the centipede and dispersed the poisonous flame. However, unwilling to fail, the centipede essence adjusted its state and rushed to the top of the mountain, spouting more poisonous flames crazily. When the golden rooster stood on the top of the Arctic Pavilion, it flew over to bite the centipede essence. After some fighting, the centipede essence was killed, the golden rooster fell down because of heavy poisoning, and the talents under Jiuhua Mountain survived. Since then, people have called the temple on the Arctic Pavilion Mountain "Jiming Temple" to commemorate the golden rooster that killed people.
