The History and Culture of Xiangshui County

Xiangshui County is named after Xiangshui Town, the resident of the county government. Xiangshui Town faces Guanhe River in the north. The riverbed of Guanhe River is steep and deep. Tides rise and fall, tributaries converge, and water falls and thunders. Fiona Fang is famous for its "water ring", hence the name "water ring".

Although Xiangshui has a history of only a few hundred years, it has created a group of historical celebrities because of its unique benefits of entering the sea, frequent commercial and cultural exchanges, rich products and outstanding people.

Wushu champion Xu (1788 ~ 183 1) is a native of Xiangshan Village, Xiangshui County. In the eighteenth year of Jiaqing (18 13) and the twenty-fourth year of Jiaqing (18 19), he was the champion of martial arts.

Wu Cheng'en, the author of The Journey to the West, frequents here, and the hometown of Erlang God in his works is at the mouth of Guanjiang River (the southern end of Guanjiang River is actually managed by Guan Yun). "Dragon Pass in the East China Sea" and "Erlang Temple" are both based on the landscape of Xiangshui Kaishan Island.

Huang Wei Town's "Guyuntiguan" is the mouth of the ancient Huaihe River, and it is also an important customs in the early east coast of China. In the early years of Qianlong, Qidong plaque was awarded, and in the 13th year of Jiaqing (1808), Chaozong Puqing plaque was awarded. Gong Zizhen said in his poem, "The road outside the ladder is wide, and Wan Li sings all night.". 1944, the new fourth army held a strategic counterattack in Yanfu area. Under the command of General Zhang Aiping, the first battle started in the water, leaving a stirring chapter of "Red Flag Shouyang Chenjiagang".
