How did Yuan Shikai die?

When Yuan Shikai proclaimed himself emperor, he said that he chose to do so in order to save the nation. Although, some people now understand what Yuan Shikai did at that time. So, under the curse and opposition of the people all over the country, he died after only 80 days as emperor.

There are three theories about the cause of Yuan Shikai's death, and the third one is embarrassing because of superstition.

The first statement is the most normal and practical, and that is death. It is rumored that Yuan Shikai suffered from uremia, but at the important moment of treatment, because the eldest son advocated western medicine surgery and the second son advocated conservative treatment, the best opportunity for treatment was missed. Finally, he died in bed.

The second argument is that Yuan Shikai is angry, and people's stories are absurd, but they are also based on facts. It is not easy for Yuan Shikai to proclaim himself emperor. At that time, people said that he was a national thief and that he had lost his power and humiliated the people. Everyone cursed him and hoped that he would die soon. Under this pressure, Yuan Shikai was crushed mentally and physically. But a very important reason for being angry is that Yuan Shikai said "He killed me" before he died. As for who this "he" is, no one knows.

Compared with the first two statements, the third statement about Yuan Shikai's death is too superstitious. It is also a situation that many people are embarrassed after listening to it. It is rumored that Yuan Shikai refused to take medicine during his illness, which is why he will eventually die without treatment.

Why not take medicine? A fortune teller once told Yuan Shikai that he would not live to be 58 years old. Yuan Shikai asked him how to crack it. He said that only when Yuan Shikai became emperor could this difficulty be avoided. I don't know if Yuan Shikai's ambition to become an emperor later has anything to do with what the fortune teller said, but he must have his own reasons for wanting to be an emperor despite everyone's opposition. As for why Yuan Shikai didn't take medicine, it was actually because he listened to the fortune teller and made him drink poisoned wine.

During Yuan Shikai's own illness, he always felt that the fortune teller had come back and asked him to take it away. He looked at his soup and medicine, and thought that soup and medicine were very similar to the poisoned wine you gave to the fortune teller, so no matter what everyone said, he just didn't take medicine. People close to Yuan Shikai knew about the fortune teller, so they had to give up and have been treating Yuan Shikai through acupuncture and other methods. But insisting on not taking medicine can't cure the disease, so Yuan Shikai died in the end.
