How did you choose officials before the imperial examination system?

In the ancient three generations, it mainly depended on the succession of titles, and there were a few folk choices.

The military title system implemented by Qin broke the hereditary system of aristocratic titles. The procuratorial system and the collection system were established in the Han Dynasty. Tea house is a bottom-up recommendation, often dominated by large families. The levy was selected from top to bottom, and the emperor selected people with prestige to assist.

During the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, the Zheng Zhi system of Jiupin was also a selection system based on aristocratic families.

It was not until the emergence of the imperial examination system that ordinary students could study across classes. Although the stereotyped writing was distorted in the later development, the imperial examination system was still a major system in ancient China.
