Temple introduction:

Jingci Temple, located on the south bank of West Lake in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, opposite Leifeng Tower, is one of the four ancient temples in the history of West Lake and one of the famous temples in China.

Because of the bell ringing in the temple, "Nanping Night Bell" has become one of the "Ten Scenes of West Lake". The temple is located at the foot of Huiri Peak in Nanping Mountain, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. It was built in 954 by Qian Hongchu of Wu Yue State in the Five Dynasties for the monk Yongming Zen Master, and was originally named Yongming Zen Temple. Jingci Temple was renamed in the Southern Song Dynasty, and there are 500 arhat halls.

Famous scenic spots in Jingci Temple:

Nanping Mountain:

Zhong Ling in Nanping Mountain is very beautiful, and Jingci Temple is full of cigarettes, which is the place that literati yearn for. In order to escape from the world, many literati often come to the temple to talk about Zen and recite scriptures, which has become the style of writing in ancient Hangzhou. Many people still come here to live in seclusion, study and write articles. For example, Mo Weixian of the Yuan Dynasty built "Nanping Villa" next to the temple.

In the Ming Dynasty, Sun Yiyuan built Gao Shiwu and Chai Shaobing opened Nanping Bookstore. Huang Ruheng built a "forest" next to the Leifeng Tower, often at weddings; Yuan Hongdao, a famous writer, lived in Jingci Temple for a long time in the 28th year of Wanli of Ming Dynasty (1600).

Leifeng Ancient Pagoda:

There is a Leifeng Pagoda in front of the temple, which was built in Zhaoqian Mountain, a branch of Nanping. In ancient times, a man named Lei Feng lived here, so his name was Lei Feng. Princess Huang of wuyue built a pagoda here. Whenever the sun goes down, the pagoda rises to the sky and forms its own scene. So Lin Bu, a poet in the Song Dynasty, said, "See you in the village before sunset." Kangxi Michelle Ye and Qianlong Li Hong both wrote "Lei Feng Zhao Xi", but later generations still restored it as "Lei Feng Zhao Xi".

Before the tower was destroyed, it was originally a two-eaves flying building with holes in its windows. As a result, "Nanping Night Bell" and "Leifeng Sunset" have become two major scenic spots in Jingci Temple, adding luster to the famous temples. "Nanshan is clean and kind, and Beishan is quiet" are two famous temples in the southeast. The ancients said, "Two peaks are better than monks in the mountains, so you can write a picture for Nanping." There are countless poems and paintings in past dynasties.
