About the author:

Xiong Shiyi (1902- 199 1), a native of Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, graduated from the English Department of Beijing Normal University, and was one of the few bilingual writers and dramatists in the history of China literature in the 20th century. There is a saying in western cultural circles that "the bear is in the East, and the bear is in the West"-American cultural circles admire Lin Yutang and his "Beijing Fengyun", while British cultural circles admire Xiong Shiyi and love his "Tianqiao". Masefield, a British poet laureate, and Chen Yinque, a China scholar, all attached great importance to Tianqiao, making it another peak of Xiong's English creation. In addition, his plays The University Professor and The West Chamber (English version) have been handed down from generation to generation.
