What does Wenchang Pavilion mean?

Wenchang Pavilion is a traditional sacrificial building, offering sacrifices to the legendary divine comedy star who is in charge of literary and artistic achievements.

Wenchang Emperor is the god in charge of articles in the upper circles, so in many academies, besides Confucius, Wenchang Emperor, especially some civil servants, will be worshipped. Wenchang, as its name implies, is the role of Wang Wen. The ancients attached great importance to Wenchang. If you pay a little attention, you will find that Wenchang Pagoda can be seen in many cities in China.

Wenchang Pavilion, also known as Wenchang Tower, has the same psychological suggestion function as Emperor Wenchang. Wenchang Pavilion is about 24 meters high, with three floors, triple eaves, dome, ceiling tile and gourd roof. The pavilion is an octagonal three-story brick-wood structure, with arches on all sides at the bottom and connected to the street. In the ninth year of Hongzhi in Ming Dynasty (1496), Jinwen Bridge was built on the river, leading directly to the official school. In the 13th year of Wanli (1585), Wenchang Pavilion was built on Jinwen Bridge to worship Wenchang Emperor. In the 23rd year of Wanli (1595), the pavilion was burnt down, rebuilt in the following year and rebuilt in the Qing Dynasty. Today, only Wenchang Pavilion is left in Yangzhou Fu Xue complex.

On the wall at the bottom of Wenchang Pavilion, three stone tablets are embedded. One is the Monument to the Repair of Wenchang Pavilion, which introduces the history, culture and previous repairs of Wenchang Pavilion. The second is the Jinwen Bridge in Fu Xue, Yangzhou in the Ming Dynasty. The third is "Rebuilding Fu Xue County Records" by Ruan Yuan student Chen Wenshu.
