Zhaojue Temple, known as the first Zen forest in western Sichuan, is located in Chengdu.

Zhaojue Temple, located at No.333 Zhaoqing Road, chenghua district, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, is known as "the first Zen forest in western Sichuan". During the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty (627~649), it was changed to a Buddhist temple, named "Xuanzong Zhaojue of the Tang Dynasty".

Zhaojue Temple covers an area of about 20,000 square meters and has a perfect overall layout. The central axis consists of Dashanmen, Octagonal Pavilion, Heavenly King Hall, Ursa Major Hall and Tibetan Scripture Building. There are Guanyin Pavilion, Yushu Tower, Poetry and Buddha Hall (Nirvana Hall), Daxiong Hall (Yushu Tower), Xianjue Hall, Bell Tower, Drum Tower, General Tower and Wu Yuan Zen Master Tower on both sides. Many Buddhist temples in Japan and Southeast Asia still regard Zhaojue Temple as their ancestral home and have made outstanding contributions to cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries.

Legends about Zhaojue Temple.

Legend has it that when the founder of Broken Mountain revived Zhaojue Temple, he recruited many disciples and became a member of the Shuanggui Zen Department. One day, the founder of Broken Mountain told his disciples that he was going to travel, saying: If the court pillar in the temple leaves the anvil stool below, the gourd ladle on the incense table will fly away, and two Huangguoshu trees outside the temple will wrap the stone tablet in the middle. If he doesn't come back, he will set up another abbot to preside over the temple and inherit the meditation of Shuanggui.

One day three years after my father left, a wooden pillar in my father's temple really left the anvil stool; After another three years, the gourd ladle on the incense table in the Hall of the Great Hero really disappeared. Three years later, two Huangguoshu trees outside the Hall of Ursa Major have grown up and covered the stone tablet in the middle. However, the founder of Broken Mountain did not come back. What is left is his legend and the ruins that everyone can see.

Chengdu people later called the "column from the stool" temple "Diaozulou" temple, which was about 9 meters high and had sixteen nanmu columns with a diameter of about one foot and five inches. Among the four pillars in the temple, the lower end of one near the left side of the door hangs, about a foot high from the drum anvil. This is a miracle of ancient wooden buildings. Due to the closure of the temple, the ancestors of Gude Daokui in the Ming Dynasty predicted: "The tree wraps the monument, the eaves fly, the stigma falls to the ground, and the ancestors return."

Guru Qing returned to Zhao Jue, the hanging stigma fell to the ground, the ladle was long gone, and the bodhi tree grew rapidly, leaving no stone tablets exposed. The deceased called it the road to return.
