Origin of Yangtze River Bridge

ancient times

The first recorded bridge on the Yangtze River was built in Jianwu 1 1 year in the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 35). During the wars between the Qing Dynasty, the Qing army and the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, the two sides erected pontoons on the Yangtze River several times.

Before the 1950s.

Among the more than 100 bridges on the Yangtze River today, the oldest bridge is Zilijiang Bridge (also called Jinlong Bridge) on the Jinsha River, located in Lijiang City, Yunnan Province. It was built in the sixth year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1880) and donated by Governor Jiang. It is called "the first bridge of the Yangtze River" and is one of the famous tourist attractions in Lijiang. The bridge was rebuilt in 1934 and is still available for people to use.

During the Republic of China, many attempts were made to build the Yangtze River Bridge in Wuhan, and in 1946, the Wuhan Bridge Preparatory Committee with Mao Yisheng as the chief engineer was established, and the China Bridge Company was established, and the scheme research and mapping work were started, but it was not realized due to the outbreak of civil war.

The 1970s and 1980s

However, after the completion of Gezhouba, it can reach the south bank, and the name of the bridge has been changed to "Gezhouba Sanjiang Bridge".

The 1990s.
