This is the only novel that I can never get tired of reading. In my reading history, it connects Wang Xiaobo after Zheng He. In a sense, they are similar.

The first time I read Xiao Gan's translation of Yilin Publishing House, it was translated from the English Penguin Series. "Stupid" soldier Shuaike

Humpty figure, chubby face, mouth always with a naive smile, a cheerful and smart look, which washed away the image of Shuaike in Xie Ke's Good Soldier Shuaike, which is also a "stupid" soldier Shuaike in my eyes.

It took me only one day to enjoy The Good Soldier Shuaike for the first time, but I forgot the image of Shuaike with only one word "stupid". Silly funny, silly cute. An ordinary soldier who likes to drink beer was sent as cannon fodder for an emperor he disdained, but he had no interest in the war and its results. After the Sarajevo incident, everyone was careful not to comment on politics and military affairs, but Shuaike said something stupid in a pub and expressed his opinions naively, but he was arrested and imprisoned. In prison, facing the prison guards' nonsense questions, he still stupidly answered them seriously and was finally sent to a mental hospital; There, Shuaike greeted the doctors and nurses affectionately, with a calm expression and clear speech. After being driven out of the mental hospital, Shuaike could not bear to part with it. On the front line, make one after another, lost very gloriously. All handsome behaviors that don't know how to whitewash reality are "stupid" behaviors in the eyes of "big brothers". I think this is the reason why Shuaike was able to reverse Kafka's gloom in the Czech Republic at that time. He is naive.

But when I watched "The Elite Handshake" again, I found myself wrong. Shuaike is a fool recognized by the forensic doctor, but obviously he is not a real fool. Shuaike's intentional or unintentional stupidity and humor, his way of doing things that conforms to the trend of the times but can save himself, and his seemingly absurd behavior let people see the wit and flexibility of little people's survival. I think, what's the real significance of Xie Ke's playing the fool to write A Good Soldier and Handsome? He is stupid and clever.

Shuaike, because of the wrong time and speech, was thrown into absurd situations again and again and got out of the predicament wonderfully; Shuaike, who is simple and humorous in appearance, obedient and easy-going, but rich in inner knowledge and adheres to principles, is a complex contradiction in Xie Shu Ke's works. "Stupid" soldiers are not stupid, which is a kind of "powerlessness". Such a handsome guy reminds me of an idiom of China, "No matter how clever a person is, he is stupid". As Milan Kundera, a world-class novelist, said: The "ultimate absurdity" that Hasek showed us from his own external history belongs not only to Prague in the Czech Republic, but also to the whole world. In fact, The Good Soldier is the first book written by a Czech writer that I have ever read. I believe this is only the beginning of my entry into world literature!

I bought a lot of books to read this summer vacation. One of them is called "The Elite Handsome". This book was written by a Czech writer: Asia? Hasek's masterpiece. Unfortunately, before the book was finished, death forced the great writer to be silent forever.

This book is about: the Czech soldier Shuaike, who was made by machine, took part in World War I and made people laugh in the team. He can talk to his boss skillfully and deal with him as he deals with you. Exposed the darkness of the officers and the hatred of the Czech people against the rulers.

Now, I have finished reading "The Elite Handshake". In this book, Shuaike died, but the image of Shuaike will always stand in my heart. I want to learn from Shuaike and learn to be a kind, fair, honest and tolerant person!
