Liu (1887- 1936), whose real name is Fen, is from Duandian. Born in a scholarly family, he studied philology under Zhang Taiyan, a master of Chinese studies, and phonology under Chen Duxiu in his early years. At the age of 22, he studied law at Meiji University in Japan and met Sun Yat-sen and Chen Duxiu. Influenced by progressive thoughts, he joined. He organized the Wuchang Socialist Youth League, established the Wuhan Marxist Theory Research Association, hosted the branch publication Wuhan Weekly, was arrested for being related to the "February 27" strike, actively participated in the "Xishan Conference", and made the Kuomintang Rightists interfere with the plot of the Second National Congress of the Kuomintang, and was elected as the secretary of the Kuomintang Central Secretariat at the First Plenary Session of the Second Central Committee of the Kuomintang.
