What is the connection between the 28 stars and the Five Elements Eight Diagrams Array (array method, not fortune telling)?

The orientation of the four elephants is based on the orientation of the 28 stars in the sky. Seven guards were placed in the four directions of East Qinglong, West White Tiger, South Suzaku and North Xuanwu, corresponding to the seven nights in the east, west, north and south respectively.
