Most of the arcades were built by groups of overseas Chinese who came back from Nanyang at the beginning of the last century with reference to the architectural style of Nanyang at that time, so it is a special combination of Chinese and western. The exquisite sculptures and decorations of the arcade naturally have baroque flavor.

The lower part of the arcade is mostly made into a colonnade-style pedestrian walkway, which is used for shelter from rain, shading and passage.
