GoldWave is an audio editing software, which was developed by Mr Chris Craig in 1997. After several version upgrades, we are now using version 4. 16 released in 2000. Compared with the previous version, the function and interface have been greatly improved, and now it can be said that it is a mature and excellent audio editing software. What is exciting is that the China version of the teapot has been made on the website of China (www.purpleclay.com), where you can download and try it out. Our explanation below will also take this Chinese version as a model. Now you can put the troubles of E-text behind you and devote yourself to the use environment of our great mother tongue. One. quick start
GoldWave is a standard portable application, which needs no installation and is small in size (only 0.7M after compression). Release several files of the compressed package to any directory under the hard disk, and directly click GoldWave.exe to start running. Since it is audio editing software, you have to use audio files to "operate" first! Choose Open from the File menu, specify the file to edit, and then press enter. Without waiting, Jinbo immediately showed the waveform status of this file and the main interface of software running (as shown in figure 1), and its running response speed surprised us. The whole main interface is divided into three parts from top to bottom, with menu commands and shortcut toolbars at the top, waveform display in the middle and file properties below. Our main operation focuses on the waveform display area with the largest proportion of the screen. If it is a stereo file, it is divided into two channels, which can be operated separately or in a unified way.
1. Select an audio event.
Before performing various audio processing on a file, you must first select a part (the selected part is called an audio event). The selection method of Gaobo is very simple, making full use of the left and right keys of the mouse. Left-click the mouse in one position to determine the starting point of the selected part, and right-click the mouse in another position to determine the end point of the selected part, so that the selected audio event will be displayed with high brightness (as shown in Figure 2). Now all our operations will only be carried out in this high brightness area, and other shadow parts will not be affected. Figure 2: The selected part is highlighted. Of course, if the selection location is wrong or the selection area changes, you can use the Select View command under the edit menu (or use the shortcut key Ctrl+W) and then re-select the audio event.
2. Cut, copy, paste and delete
Audio editing, like other Windows applications, also uses a lot of basic operation commands such as cutting, copying, pasting and deleting, so mastering these commands firmly can help us get started quickly. These common operation commands of Jin Bo are very easy to implement. Shortcuts are similar to other Windows applications except for the command options under the Edit menu. To cut an audio event, you must first select the cut part, and then press CTRL+X. After a short wait, the selected high-brightness part disappears, leaving only other unselected shadow parts. Select the view command, reset the position of the pointer to the place where it will be pasted, and you can use Ctrl+V to restore the part that has just been cut. It is really convenient, just like ordinary software! Similarly, use Ctrl+C to copy and Del to delete. If there is an error in deletion or other operations, you can use Ctrl+Z to recover, so you can use it boldly and safely in the operation, and any error can be recovered!
3. Time scale and display scale
Below the waveform display area, there is a ruler indicating the time length of the audio file (as shown in Figure 3), which clearly displays the time in any position in seconds, which is of great help to us to understand and master the audio processing time and audio editing length, so we must get into the habit of referring to the ruler in actual operation, and you will find that it will bring you great convenience. Figure 3: Convenient time scale display In fact, after opening an audio file, the format and time length of the audio file will be displayed directly below the scale, which provides us with accurate time quantization parameters. Planning all kinds of audio processing according to this length of time will often reduce many unnecessary operation processes. Some audio files are too long to be displayed on one screen. One way is to drag and drop them with a horizontal scroll bar, and the other way is to change the display scale. In GoldWave, the method of changing the display scale is very simple, just use the zoom-in and zoom-out commands under the view menu. Zoom in with the shortcut key Shift+↑, and zoom out with Shift+↓ is more convenient. If you want to observe the change of waveform amplitude in more detail, you can increase the vertical display scale. The method is the same as the horizontal direction. Just use the vertical zoom in and out under the View menu or use Ctrl+↑ and Ctrl+↓. At this time, you will see a vertical scroll bar, and you can drag it for detailed observation.
4. Channel selection
For stereo audio files, the display in GoldWave is in parallel and horizontal form. Sometimes when editing, you just want to deal with one channel and keep the other channel unchanged. How to choose? Use the channel command in the edit menu to directly select the channel to be operated (the top indicates the left channel and the bottom indicates the right channel). At this time, you will find that all your operations will only work on this selected channel, while the other channel will be represented in dark color and will not be affected (Figure 4).
5. Insert a blank area
Inserting a blank area at a specified position for a certain period of time is also a common processing method in audio editing. Just select the Insert Mute command under the Edit menu, enter the insert time in the pop-up dialog window, and then press the OK key. At this time, you can see the blank area where the pointer stays, which is very convenient.
2. Audio special effects production
There are more than 10 common audio special effects commands in the effect menu of Jinbo, from compression to delay to echo and so on. Each special effect is the most widely used effect in daily audio applications. Mastering their use can make it easier for us to operate in multimedia production and sound synthesis and get satisfactory results. It should be noted that the Chinese translation of some commands in the effect menu in this Chinese version is not appropriate, and here we will explain them with more accurate words.
1. echo effect
Echo, as its name implies, refers to the sound returning to the place we heard after a certain period of time, just like shouting at the mountains in the wilderness, which is widely used in many film and television editing and dubbing. The method of making the echo effect of Jinbo is very simple. Just select the echo command under the effect menu, enter the delay time and volume in the pop-up dialog box and open the reverberation selection box (as shown in Figure 5). The longer the delay time, the longer the sound duration and the more echo repetitions, the more obvious the effect will be. Volume control refers to the volume of the return sound, which should not be too large, otherwise the echo effect will not be real. After the reverberation effect is turned on, it can make the sound more moist and spatial. It is recommended to choose it generally.
2. Compression effect
In the recording of singing, the recorded effect is often not so satisfactory, largely because the breath and strength of singing are not properly mastered. Some sentences are pronounced too strongly and exert too much force, which almost causes overload and distortion; Some sentences are "speaking out of turn", resulting in a weak signal. This situation will be greatly reduced if we use compression effectors for these recorded audio data. The compression effect adopts the principle of "under high pressure, under low pressure" to balance the sound intensity. In GoldWave, we can find this command in the expansion/compression of the effect menu, and the dialog box shown in Figure 6 pops up after selection. Figure 6: Among its three parameters, the most important setting of expansion/compression effect is the determination of threshold. Its value is the critical point at which compression begins, and the part exceeding this value is compressed in proportion (%). Smoothness indicates the degree of wetness of the sound. The greater the value, the more natural the sound transition, but the more vague it sounds. The smaller the value, the harder the sound is, but the clearer it is. Therefore, the appropriate smoothness should be selected in the compression process to obtain the best effect.
3. Edge effect
Using edge effect can add a unique "edge" to the sound on the basis of the original timbre, making the sound more interesting and changeable. Select the Flange command under the GoldWave effect menu, and you can see the setting interface as shown in Figure 7. Figure 7: The effect of edging is mainly determined by two parameters: depth and frequency. Trying to change their different values can get many unexpected and strange effects. If you want to strengthen the proportion of the effect after the action, you can increase the amount of stirring.
4。 modulate the pitch
Because the audio file belongs to analog signal, it is very difficult to change its pitch, and the effect after the change is not necessarily ideal. GoldWave can reasonably improve this problem, and it can be easily realized by using the pitch command it provides. Select pitch in the effect menu to enter the dialog box for changing pitch settings (as shown in Figure 8). The proportion means that the pitch is now changed to 0.5-2.0 times, which is a multiple setting method. A semitone is clear at a glance, indicating the number of semitones that change in pitch. We know that 12 semitone is an octave, so we use+12 or-12 to raise or lower an octave. The fine tuning below it is the fine tuning method of semitone, and 100 units represent a semitone. Figure 8: The inherent property of tone sandhi in setting the audio format tells us that the length of the audio file after tone sandhi will generally change, but in Jinbo, we can realize the coveted function of "tone sandhi fixed length", just check the reserved length box in the dialog box, and now it is still the original file length when it is played again.
5. Equalizer
Balance adjustment is also a very important processing method in audio editing, which can reasonably improve the frequency structure of audio files and achieve our ideal sound effect. Select Filter-Variable Equalizer in the effect menu to open the 10 segment parameter equalizer dialog box of Jinbo (as shown in Figure 9). Figure 9: The simplest and quickest way to adjust the parameter equalizer of 10 segment is to directly drag the digital symbols representing different frequency bands to the specified size position, and pay attention to the fact that the gain of each segment of sound should not be too large to avoid overload and distortion.
6. Volume effect
The volume effect submenu of GoldWave contains commands such as changing the volume of the selected part, fading in and out the effect, maximizing the volume, volume envelope and so on. , to meet our needs of various volume changes. The command to change the volume is to increase or decrease the volume directly in the form of percentage, and its value cannot be too large. If you don't want to overload and want to increase the volume to the maximum, then it is recommended that you use the volume maximization command. This is one of the most convenient and practical commands that Jinbo has given us. Usually, before you burn a song to a CD, you should process it at the maximum volume. It is also easy to make a fade-in effect. Just select the appropriate command and enter a volume percentage at the beginning (or end). Now listen to the effect, and the volume changes naturally. If you want to change the volume of audio events in different locations, you must use the volume envelope. After opening the envelope dialog box, you can directly add and adjust the position of the volume point with the mouse (as shown in figure 10), and finally press the OK key.
7。 Sound phase effect
Pan effect refers to controlling the sound positions of the left and right channels and changing them to achieve the purpose of pan editing. Among the panning effects of GoldWave, swapping channel positions and panning envelopes are the most useful. Switching the position of the channel is to exchange the data of the left and right channels, and it can be completed by selecting Stereo-Switch under the effect menu. The sound envelope is very similar to the volume envelope, so it is very convenient to control different sound changes in different places more flexibly. Of course, in addition to the above effects, Jinbo also provides effects such as inversion, mute, inversion and offset. Their usage is simpler, and you will know the meaning once you use them.
Three. Other practical functions
In addition to providing rich audio production commands, GoldWave also provides us with very practical functions such as CD track capture, batch format conversion, and support for multiple media formats.
1.cd capture audio track
If the audio material you want to edit is in a CD, now you don't need to use other audio track capture software to guide between various formats. You can directly select the CD sound extraction command under the Jinbo tool menu and complete it in one step (as shown in figure 1 1). 2. Batch format conversion
Batch format conversion in GoldWave is also a very useful function. It can open multiple files in its supported format at the same time and convert them into various other audio formats. It runs fast and has a good conversion effect, so many users have always had a special liking for this function! Select the batch change command under the file menu, add multiple files to be converted in the dialog box of Figure 12, select the converted format and path, and then press the Start key. After a while, you will find these newly generated audio format files in the path you just set.
3. Support multiple media formats
In the open command dialog box of Jinbo, we can find that it not only supports the most basic wav format, but also can directly edit audio files in mp3 format, aif format of Mac and even video mpg format. This brings too much convenience to our operation, and we don't have to go back and forth between various formats. Gaobo's support for multiple media formats will bring you higher work efficiency.
Jinbo has many other functional commands, which cannot be described one by one due to the limitation of space.
